BFC fans voted Danny top couple of years ago. Deserved. However I feel for Keith as in 94-97 money wasn't driving teams up the league anywhere near like it is 09-12 Worst - Suppose Parkin as took us down. Still baffled why folk bring up Bassett. A Barnard penalty conversion from taking us up.
Aye, he was. But if he'd kept De Zeeuw instead of bringing his mates Chettle and Tuttle in we'd have walked the league. And some of his signings were disgraceful. And he renewed Tinkerbells contract. I wonder why a certain player also played so much so late on...
Worst Spackman by a million miles,a lot of his dealings and arrogance to BFC almost cost our survival as a football league club.
Best Wilson but just for his achievement, mention for Clarke, Hunter and Ritchie for getting us out of that horrid league. Worse Hart. Seeing friends who have been fans for years driven away forever by this man was saddening. Remember his interviews on radio Sheffield? One word answers, the most boring man in football.
De Zeeuw went for double his wages, i can understand someone having an in built prejudice against Bassett for his connection with Sheff Utd but to say he was one of the worst in our history is just embarrassing yourself
I'd agree with that although a close second for Clarke (first time),Hunter and Bassett for the best. Spackman is a country mile the worst, it amuses me that so many people are putting Spackers as the worst because he was lauded as the greatest manager of all time when he came....a bit like Keith Hill although Keith seems to have read in the close season the page in the coaching manual where it says 'don't let players of average ability pass across your own penalty area' , Spackers never got that far.
Danny Wilson - Gave me the happiest years watching barnsley so has to be the best. Nigel Slackman has to be the worst, i still have nightmares of his spell in charge! noticed someone mentioned Mel Machin as their worst manager, puzzled by that one. I always thought he was a top man.
Worst - John McSeveney (we played the poorest quality of football I've ever seen under his stewardship). Best - For the manner in which he totally transformed & rejuvenated the club and laid the foundations for future success, Allan Clarke from 1978-1980. Special mentions to Mr Steele (calling him by his first name seems wrong, disrespectful and inappropriate even now), Norman Hunter (before he totally destroyed the best Barnsley team I've ever seen) & Danny Wilson (for producing such a successful, entertaining team on a relatively small budget).
See theres a few folk who have put John McSeveney, before my time so I was wondering just how bad it was?
Best - Wilson, not only for the promotion, but the style and quality of football served up on a regular basis. Worst - Davey. His dire brand of football put me off going to games altogether.
Worst for me football wise was Jon Parkin, though Paul Hart handled himself badly and was a mardy git. Danny Wilson gets my vote for defying the odds under very limited resources and giving us our happiest moments. I used to love Norman as a lad, he'd always wave and talk to us young uns behind the dug out. The single most important man though in my time as a fan, and possibly the history of the club, has to be Allan Clarke.
Gave a new meaning to the word dull For example, when we were relegated in 1971/72 under him, we scored about 32 goals in 46 games. Truly dreadful.
