i see is negativity. IMO if someone wants to invest in to the team then thats great. Mr Cryne doesn't want to own the club. Mr cryne wants/ needs to sell. If he doesn't sell then any decent offer for Stones in January or the summer will be taken. If we can get some decent money in to the club and we can push up the table we will get more for him. If these people have money and see the medium term view of the club then they'll not sell. If we can keep him to 21 years old he might become a england u21 player then what evers offered now could be tripled/ quadrupled. Thats the same for Digby clark rose ...... . In 2 years time all we could have to show for this money/talent maybe no debt. The clubs in a great position. Every time you go inside the training ground you think, wow what i nice/ impressive area it is.
We'll not get a million pound for any of the other players Bryn in my opinion. Steele would have in the summer but 9 month left, not a chance now.
I'm glad you've cleared that up for me. For a moment I was just a bit wary that foreign investment, by people with no previous connection to the club, hasnt exactly worked at some clubs.... Birmingham, Portsmouth for example, but now you've told me it's a good thing, I'll sleep easy tonight.
I thought there was a chance of some random bloke from the other side of the world using the land to build houses and moving us to an out of town 12,000 seater stadium with no soul or changing the clubs badge, nickname or colours to match whatever colour he's got on his bedroom wall but now I know that our training pitches are impressive I won't worry.
Re: All you see is negativity because I think you've just hit the nail on the head. And no hemsworth tyke, that doesn't mean he's just done this to himself.
It's caution not negativity Hemsworth, I am sure everyone would welcome investment as long as the people doing so have the club's best long term interests in mind. You can't deny it there have been a lot of bad examples of new owners in the past 5 years and none of us want that including yourself I'm sure. As long as it is someone who is not using the club as an asset to acquire their investment money and they do not expect the club/next owners to pay them that money back and the current board take time to get to know and trust these people then I'm all for it. It would be great to have a slice of the pie for a change, but it can't be a gamble, being cautious about risking something we all love is perfectly healthy
Yeah there are examples of good takeovers and that is what we want. The current board are not going to undo all the hard work they have done over the past years by handing over the keys to some cowboys, I'm sure of it. That said, we are a million miles away from a real takeover. So far all they have done is ask to see our financial records (I imagine).
Can you confirm these good people have actually donated money or not just setting up loans tied against the assets and future income. Given the results of the last year ending....
I suppose the fact that all seems to be rosy at the club is making people a bit resistant towards a change...at the end of the day we are unlikely to pull up any trees in this division and as things stand (I hope I'm wrong) we'll more than likely finish no higher than we have since coming back into this league. Mainly because when January comes round, any of our decent players who maintain good form will be off - can you imagine taking Mellis and Davies out of the side now? We'd be nowhere near as effective. I also think some of the players we take for granted will be of interest to other clubs as well but that is the price of success. This takeover stuff has been going through my mind most of the day and I just don't know what to make of it, really depends on the attitude of potential owners. Going by the example of other clubs who have been taken over they generally appoint some well-known manager that hasn't necessarily had a lot of success, this manager then brings in older fairly well-known players who he's worked with before who are paid handsomely but don't perform well. The owners get bored, hang on to the club but don't keep pumping money in and we are back to square one. Whatever happens, I just hope Keith and his support staff are given time to show what they can do. With a bit of money behind him, Hill could work wonders, couple of million quid and a bit more freedom with salaries and I seriously think he could take us to the Premier League. As things stand, that is a pipe dream as we will no doubt lose at least a couple of players in January if we can't offer them better deals at Oakwell and even now we are a couple of quality players in key positions away from seriously finishing anywhere near the top six - ie we haven't got enough up front, and the defence is suspect.
Hemsworth, you have been supporting the Reds for what, 5 seasons? You don't appear to possess any knowledge of our club prior to that and don't have any interest in the conversations folk have about the club's history. Ten years ago, we very nearly lost the club and it has taken until now to get over that and more or less back to where we were. We also nearly lost your precious academy and the Queens Ground training pitches. The supporters lived trough that and we campaigned to keep the club alive and Oakwell whole, despite very shady ownership and a mess of corrupt and unethical business practice. Allegedly. All we know now is that there is interest from a couple of potential new owners and the word is that the first team management team could be replaced in the event of a takeover. We have been here before, so allow us to view the situation how we like and if that is with nervous suspicion then we are quite within our rights to do that.
My point is that people always presume bad on here. Not good. The facts are the club need a takeover, fact. Mr Crynes Ill. Does Mrs Cryne want to look after a football club? Maybe not. Its better that the club try and sell before having to sell quickly. Sheffield Wednesday have grown since takeover. so have leicester and Reading and Stoke ............. People saying well we want to keep Mr Hill, well it's what 2/3 weeks since people on this board wanted him out. Under the current ownership Hill will not be here in 18 month. He'll either be sacked or poached.
