Lets face it, we're not a glamour club, and probably never will be. If we're taken over by a foreign consortium, they're only after one of 2 things- making money, or stroking their egos. I'm not interested in either.

I've often wondered what it would feel like supporting a Barnsley team able to compete on the wage front with the top teams in our league, and I've never thought it's somewhere I wanted to go, unless of course it was a wealthy local benefactor who genuinely had our interests at heart. If I won the Euro Millions, I'd have a crack. Gally as Chairman, me with a cheque book and a fat cigar!

We only have to look at Watford to see what an "Italian consortium" can do to a football club- sack the manager who did well last season, only to replace them with their mate Gianfranco, who's managerial backround is at the very least questionable. Then they decide to sign half of Udinese's 2nd team, filling the squad with a load of players who would rather be anywhere but Watford, and who aren't even getting in the matchday squad.

The Qatari link is even more baffling- I genuinely can't get my head around that one. I doubt any Qatari investment would be for altuistic reasons, and they'd certainly not be doing it for the glamour (as in the Man City scenario). So they must be wanting to take a debt free club into the Prem whilst spending the minimum in the process, thereby filling their boots- surely?

But then what's the alternative- struggling along, season after season, having to scrape together a few shilling just to keep the club in good order?

I would genuinely like to see Keith get a small windfall and be able to compete at least on a par with the likes of Leicester, Derby, Burnley and the like, but I don't want it to be at the expense of our club's future.

But then again, this could all be a rayt load of b*llocks anyroad.....

I am genuinely afear'd by thoughts of a takeover by anyone who does not love the club or understand what it means to the town and the fans.

Just being devils advocate here though, what does the club mean to the people of Barnsley? What's at stake? What is it that we are protecting here- our status of little old Barnsley?

I fear like you, but if a good offer comes along, I think we'll be sold. If that does happen, I think it'll be down to us supporters to ensure that the club goes in a direction we want it to.

And your point is what exactly? I was referring to the glamour aspect not the boards of these clubs.

The reason clubs go out of business or spend years recovering from someone else's debt is how clubs amount to nowt.

I'm pretty sure all fans would welcome investment as long as the people who are investing are the right people, all being well that will be the case. There is nothing wrong with being protective of our club thereev.

What is the matter with you lot ?

Every season you are favorites with the bookmakers to go down. You have one of the smallest budgets and very little ambition as a club apart from Championship survival.

Wouldn't you like a realistic chance of getting to the Prem ? Sign good championship/Premiership players instead of league 1 and lower ?

Look at how far my team Brighton has come in the last few years. It beggars belief that you lot what to be stuck in the stone age with gates to match it.

The issue is not that someone wants to invest but their motives behind it. As a club Barnsley have already been bitten more than once.

On top of that you look through the leagues especially the top two and see the number of clubs under foreign stewardship which are a financial disaster.
