Was looking it up for a weekend away, don't need accommodation, just flights.

Nowhere in the UK seems to fly direct to Vienna though?

BA fly direct from Heathrow, but probably you want something cheaper?

Somewhere a bit further up North would be better, I probably saw Heathrow but discarded it as an option.

Yes, I found a restaurant advertising the "biggest wiener schnitzel in the world". Came on a massive plate, mst ave been 18" across, served wit a lemon and potato salad. Amazing, couldn't finish it. Wish I could have another go now!

Fly to Bratislava (lot cheaper than flying direct to Vienna and you'll get flights from up North), and it's about an hour away from Vienna. I'd presume they'll be a bus.

Why Vienna though? Haven't been but I doubt it's anything special.

I have friends who have just moved to Vienna from deepest, darkest Austria, Zwischenwasser to be exact!

On a general note, Stansted is my favourite airport - not the closest but quite easy to get to, traffic is never bad, airport is straight off the motorway, and it seems to be a big hub for all the lower cost airlines who seem to offer their best prices from there as well.

Saying that don't always be fooled by the prices of people like Ryanair, if you are taking anything other than cabin baggage you would be better off looking at the mainstream airlines (such as Lufthansa, BA, KLM - depends where you are going) who include at least one piece of checked baggage in the price AND the experience of the flight is much better.

I'm not that tall but I still have nightmares about a 3 hour flight on Ryanair (literally couldn't move or feel my legs after a while), wasn't bad on the way back as I was pi**sed and somehow managed to sleep sat upright.

Yes been through the airport many times and spent the odd weekend there. I think its a really nice city just a bit quiet in the evenings - doesnt have the buzz of London or Paris for example

Have only flown from Heathrow but its not the cheapest destination on a direct flight - For you I would have thought Lufthansa from Manchester with a change in Frankfurt or Munich was your best bet or possibly KLM via Amsterdam think they fly from Glasgow
