The fact that she was out on her own does seem a little strange though it doesnt sound like she was out on her own but with a whole group of kids - no idea of the ages.
Dont let that detract from the monster that took her though Hell is too good for him

I hope so too. All we can do is pray that whoever has her returns her safe and unhurt.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....My pet hate is parents who can't be bothered to keep an eye on their own children, be it holding their hand to cross a road or keep a eye on them while they are playing in the garden.

When I'm with my 6 year old I have constantly got hold of his hand, I don't even let him get out of the car until I've walked to the passenger door and made sure I've got a hold of his hand.

Maybe I'm too overprotective but where children are concerned you can't be too careful.

I am in total agreement with Mr E Lower.

I know our kids should be able to play safely but the fact remains there are evil scumbags out there and parents have to be very aware that one of those evil bastar.ds could be lurking nearby.

Some parents however don't appear to give a toss and these tragedies continue to occur...... Kate and Gerry Mcann spring to mind. The odds of this happening are very rare but why would anyone want to take the chance of this occurring, however small, is beyond belief.

Here's hoping the little girl is ok but I am fearing the worst now.

The sad thing is that when we were young me and Ponty72 used to be out all day and we used to go all over with lots of other kids of the same age and statistically it was no more dangerous in the 70's than it is now. Its impossible and unfair to wrap kids up in cotton wool and take away their childhood through being so scared to let them play it means you make them virtual prisoners in the home. On one hand we look at the young generation now and all they do is sit behind playstations and wonder how this will affect them as adults, on the other we are protecting them to the point where their childhood is dictated by fear and worry. Its a parents worst nightmare to face this situation and if the worst has happened they will be living with a life sentence for making a mistake. I hope and pray they get their little girl back.

    good post

I was out all day every day when I was a kid. And you're right, it is no more dangerous now than it was back then. I don't think my parents were bad parents, but they did allow me to live my life and I had a fantastic childhood: fishing, playing football, off on my bike, exploring, I had a brilliant time.

On the one hand kids these days are berated for not doing anything, just sitting in front of a computer or playing video games and on the other parents treat them like priceless artefacts, never letting them out of their sight.

I will always be thankful to my mum and dad for trusting me and letting me enjoy my childhood.

We let our 5 year old play out to 7.30 ish, as long as there are other kids on the estate out playing, we live opposite a small play area so can always check (and do), but do I always go out or stand at the window watching? No. Kids are no less safe then they were in the 70's, I was out all the time, we can all live as prisoners of fear if we allow it.

Are you armed with all the facts of her whereabouts, the people she was with and the circumstances relating to the incident? Are you a parent ST or are you just really good at telling other parents how to raise their children? You really are a self righteous ***** sometimes.

    Re: good post

As a parent it's hard not to think that there's a weirdo just waiting to nick your child.

It's re-inforced by the myriad of risk assessements etc that mine has to undertake at nursery - nursery ffs for any activity where 'outside' people are coming in to speak to the children. It's dead easy to let your protective instinct takeover and cloud how you deal with your child - children are smart, they'll pick up on your (irrational at times) fears.

I'm ****** if I know how I'm going to be as she gets older, perhaps shitting yourself until they come home is what our parents did but didn't pass it on ?

    Just weirded myself out.

    Re: good post

Don't envy your job mate. Every decision you make is a judgement call, there's no right answer. You're going to be in a constant state of panic until your daughter is at least 18 and then you'll just be worried about drink and drugs. It'll probably never stop.

I would imagine our parents were crapping themselves until we got home every night. Just one of the reasons I haven't got kids.

18?? - I would guess that'll actually be somewhere between 11 and 14 depending on when she gets interested in boys. Much above 16 and it is drink, nights out and random men you need to worry about....
