Name one manager who you think could do a better job than Hill on the budget that BFC currently has. A manager that we could afford to employ also. All completely hypothetical obviously, as we'll never know - but I'm intrigued to find out what our alternatives are if Hill ever leaves.
So someone puts a name up and the pack of lions rip it to pieces. They`re are better games to play on a Monday Mike.
I ask the same question to a few of the regulars in the pub before a game when they are moaning about Hill. I honestly don't think there is many other managers in the English game who would do a better job on this budget.
Dougie Freedman. But he can't know what he's doing 'cos he wanted Matty Done. Paul Tisdale at Exeter. Steve Davies at Crewe.
Not a game mate. If you knew me you'd know that. I stopped posting for a week due to the uproar from our recent defeats that I didn't want to become embroiled in. As I said, genuine question. Do you have an answer? PS, I'd love to start meeting some of the posters from here when I'm in the UK. I'm sure we'd have some good conversations. I'd be prepared to put my opinions out there in person. "No games".
Freedman is a great shout. Tisdale and Davies are untried lower league managers like our Keith. But I asked for opinions so thanks for bringing great ones.
No do I need one? It was Tisdale or Hill for me for the job and nowts made me think of another manager yet.
Of course you need one. You chose to respond to my original post. And, with your response I can't understand why you took such issue with my question. It's not as if i come on here winding people up. Strange. But then, I only have 656 posts (on the new BBS) so what do I know.
Its just how these kind of posts end usually. Are we all whiter than white today, no go on hand on heart, or reight all believe thi.
We'd have to look League 1 and below imho Cos the answer to most probs in The Championship and Premier is to throw money at it - more money than we've (apparently) got. So I'd give Steve Davis another season or 2 at Crewe, then have a look at him if they're doing well.
Re: We'd have to look League 1 and below imho Gus Hiddink, he's my man if Keith left. Or maybe I will reconvene my solitary vigil in the Gary Neville camp?
If hill leaves for a better club, it would have to be David Flitcroft for me, and BFC would have to be stupid not to offer him the job in my opinion
There may be somebody better, but who knows. There is no way, at our level, of guaranteeing success. Even at the very top, as Liverpool are finding out, some managers may do wonders in some places but fail in others. Problem is, managers hit good and bad patches like players do. A manager, like Tidsdale at Exeter, may look great for a couple of years, but then the team struggles, gets relegated and he's yesterday's news. We may covet certain managers when we're going through a bad patch, but then a year down the line be thankful we never got him. I certainly thought that Spackman and Robins were going to be the new Danny Wilson (who, lets face it, is another manager who only really had a short spell of success), but it didn't turn out to be. Just look in the Premiership. Wasn't John Gregory once linked with the England job and wasn't Mike Walker actually interviewed for the England job? A couple of years later and where were they? We've got a good manager at the moment who has us playing good football more often than not. It's not perfect, as the odds are stacked up against us (no money, injuries, etc), but it's better than it has been for years. With the aforementioned hurdles, improving our position is going to be a slow process, so we really need to give Hill time and it's clear from the people who actually go down and see us play that the majority are happy to give him the time and the support he needs.
stop posting such reasonable comments on the bbs! its noticeable all those who wanted hill sacking or didn't want him appointed (for whatever reason) haven't come up with anyone notable they would replace him with. tisdale at exeter, davis at crewe... all doing precisely what Keith was doing at Rochdale.
Steve Davies is indeed a really good shout. I would also be tempted to mention Paolo Di Canio, if he wasn't Paolo Di Canio
keith hill is let down by the fact that he hasnt got any money to spend...I reakon if he had a few bob to enable him to secure our existing decent players as well as being able to get some decent transfers in,he'd do ok.. I honestly couldnt see anyone doing any better without any money. if we do see a takeover and there is some money to spend, then for me thats when he really will be judged on results.
I, like MrsHalls, wanted either Keith Hill or Paul Tisdale last summer. So I'd put Tisdale on a list of potential next gaffers. Along with Steve Davis at Crewe, and Greg Abbot at Carlisle. Keith's doing okay, but not working miracles. I might be his original fanboy, but I'm not an idiot. Plenty of managers out there that could emulate his achievements so far at Oakwell.
