fantastic place if you have the money and arnt worried about losing it, if you dont have the money go somewhere else because to enjoy vegas for what it is you need a big wheelbarrow or plenty of luck
I went last week... Brilliant... what do you want to know? It's not actually that expensive to eat etc, just depends how you do with gambling. I won a poker tournament in a casino which paid for all my spending money!
I've been and was seriously disappointed. The best way I can describe it is a massive facade covering up a very exploitative culture. It's quite expensive when you're there, as everything is designed for maximum profits. I can imagine some people find the place awe inspiring, but I just can't
Can I ask what you were hoping for and didn't get? Food, drink etc no more expensive than most places I've ever been. Casinos are what they are everywhere. The only thing I didn't like was hundreds of Mexicans wafting prostitute flyers in everyone's face all the way down the strip... especially when it's people who are clearly a couple! It's a unique place I'd recommend everyone go once.
yep porn slapper and time share people are a pest i actually convinced a time share guy that Dod 'uth was in texas
Us Dodworthers managed to Give a good account of ourselves against those pesky Mexicans! God bless Arthur Bowie & Albert Crockett!! They didn't give up on the Thornely Arms until it was over run! <img src ="http://downtownsanantonio.org/files/mapdata/w0/wq/2q0/alamo.jpg">
I'd been told great things about Las Vegas so I suppose my expectations were too high before arriving. I was expecting to see amazing sights, but it all felt very novelty. I suppose the underbelly of Las Vegas (the poverty, prostitution, drugs etc) wasn't hard to see and it made you realise what it took to create the illusion. As others have mentioned, if money isn't an issue I suppose it's just a massive playground - but money is always an issue for me so I couldn't really enjoy it. Every casino is very similar and after seeing a few I realised that the place is designed to take your money from you. I read an interesting stat on the monorail actually - the average visitor to Las Vegas loses $200 in the casino during their stay.
I agree that the casinos are very similar. I'm not really big on slot machines etc, and the stakes were too high on the roulette/blackjack tables. I was just lucky to win a game of poker which meant I was $700 up for the week from gambling.
Re: Us Dodworthers managed to thats only cos all the gays go there....so i am told you little tinker!!!! hth
Went in '99. Just spending time hotel hopping and seeing what's on was great. Took flight over Hoover dam too. Didn't gamble as only 18/19 at the time. Venetian we stayed at was only just open
It isn't just the city Went out with some others to do the Las Vegas Marathon in 2009. While there, we hired a car and visited the Grand Canyon, and the Hoover Dam. Went on the Grand Canyon Skywalk, and took a helicopter trip down to the Colorado River. Closer to the city there is Red Rock Canyon. The city itself is a wonderful place to just walk round. You don't have to spend a fortune at the Casinos. Hoping to go back when finances allow.
Re: It isn't just the city My parents did it as part of a us holiday tour - they liked it for the time they were there but couldn't have spent a week or so. A day or two for them was enough . They highly recommended the tour though - got to say some great places. San fransisco and Alcatraz were the highlights for them
I've been maybe 7 or 8 times and love the place although Im not one for gambling. THere's tonnes of stuff to do but I guess you need a reasonable budget to enjoy it.
