What a surprise. Yes, Steele should be in the team, but we've had a 5-0 win at Birmingham with Alnwick playing, and a clean sheet last week. We played well for a while and only a flukey goal got them back in it. Yes we could have defended better, but we are conceding fewer goals than last season so I'd say today was an off day in that department. I don't see how people can blame Keith for a cruel deflection and some poor goalkeeping, which if it hadn't happened, we could just as easily have won. We are still missing Cranie, O'Brien, Silva, Mido and currently Davies. My opinion of course, but if any Barnsley fan seriously wants Hill out, then they're in cloud cuckoo land. He's not perfect, he's not the messiah, but he's doing a bloody good job with what he's got. I cannot think of any manager who would do as well as Keith with the current financial circumstances. I can't prove this, and I'm not saying I'm right, but I firmly believe that. I can see the improvements he is making at the club, if some can't. A good example of his management skills is in evidence when seeing how much players like Perkins and Dawson have improved massively, having being plucked from obscurity. If we had a goalscorer (Mido?) and better options in the final third (O'Brien/Silva?) we could easily finish mid-table.
Great post mate. Finally someone speaking sense. Agree with everything you've just said. No replies yet as most fans prefer to jump on the Hill out posts and things like that. http://www.barnsley.vitalfootball.co.uk/matchrep.asp?a=297881
Good post JT. It hasn't taken long for the divide to open up again. I guess it's business as usual now with the Hill supporters and the Hill out mob at loggerheads again. Hill in.
I think Keeef got the formation wrong today because Perkins was steam rollered by their midfield However...........wouldn't swap KeeeeFFlicker for any management team from ANY division........and that includes the Premeirship This management team suits Barnsley Football Club at this moment in time Cant see any other management team getting players from lower divisions and making them into decent footballers Felt very very disappointed today But after hearing what Keeef had to say on the BBC sports website i am feeling better
One of the key things for me is that Hill seems to learn from his mistakes, and he acknowledges that he makes some, like on Tuesday. There are lots of managers (eg Jewell at Ipswich), whose answer to everything is to buy/loan another player. A lot of managers who have money simply do this. Hill has shown he can massively improve and get the best out of (some) players... Vaz Te, Perkins and Dawson are three examples.
What about Edwards, Collins etc. Do they not count? He says we need to bring in loans in defence, yet we have sent 2 out on loan, ones he brought in!!!
Do they not count to what? I didn't say all his signings were good, no manager's are. I'm not aware of him wanting loans for defence, just strikers.
Check his interviews from beginning of the week mate. He says he needs to bring in a defender or two on loan. I am not saying all his signings are bad either, but it seems to be forgotten by a fair few that he brings in some poor players too.
Got to agree letting those two out was a mistake, one he admitted was done on medical advice? But I still don't think with McNulty on the bench and Cranie coming back central defence is a problem. We're just not scoring enough goals.
I agree, with McNulty and Cranie we have two decent enough players, the big snag for me is, that the single weakest link we have is Wiseman,I just hope he doesn't bring back McNulty and drop Stones, for Wiseman to carry on as before as a right back who can't defend.
The lack of height is an issue, midfield in particular. Perhaps put Cranie back in front of the defence, McNulty with Foster, and give Stones a breather and play Hassell in these next 2 away games. But as Dyson says, it's in attack where we're transparent. I'd like two up top at home, and unless Mido gets fit quick, we need a loan striker to play with Daggers/Marlon. Nile Ranger wouldn't surprise me. *shudders*
