I did not visit this site last night because I had other commitments, but reading comments this morning, I think that there has been an over-reaction. Hill has gone from a genius to a fool in six weeks. He is neither a genius nor a fool, but he is a good manager. He reverted to the 4-5-1 system that the team did so well with in the early part of last season, and for the first 20 minutes, it worked. However Done and Cywka were, once more, very disappointing in the wide roles. Etuhu and Golbourne were very little improvement. Until we have proper wingesr fit and have pace out wide, we will have problems with this system. I do not blame Hill for trying it though. The diamond has been giving us plenty of possession, but very few goals, particularly at home. He had to try something different. It did not work, but he had to try it. Having said all that, there were some very poor individual performances, and I wonder whether some of the players were tired because of the efforts they put in on Tuesday. Mellis was poor, and Perkins looked leggy in the second half. However, I would save my biggest criticism for Alnwick, who I faulted for two of the goals, three if there was no deflection for the first (I could not tell from my position). In my view, the fourth goal only happened because our shape had gone in an attempt to find the equaliser. We were 4-4-2 by then, which was too open. Hill's biggest problem, after we went behind was that he looked around at his bench, and there was no-one sitting behind him who could change the game. Because of injuries, and under investment, the squad is very thin. This is not Hill's fault, but he does need to go into the loan market if he hopes to avoid another surrender. Finally, I thought Forest were very good. They broke with pace and had quality up front. When they changed their team late on, there was plenty of quality on the bench. The game illustrated the difference between a club, which has invested heavily in order to try to reach the Premier League, and a team that is up for sale, and is under investing because the owner does not want to spend money needlessly when new owners may wish to go in a different direction.
Poor loves having to play three times in a week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I was digging a trench all day with no machines, through Tarmac, hardcore and shail with a pick and shovel. On Wednesday at 5pm had to go to an emergency flood rip out and worked until 9.30pm after having left the house at 6am. They don't know what tired feels like.
Good post a little bit of common sense, I agree about the effort from Tuesday night and the depth of the squad. Most players didn't look sharp enough but Hill can't change his key postions unfortunately. Up front needs freshening quickly because our system needs movement and link up from the front and you can't win if you can't score.
Surprised by the reaction? Really? You've been here since August 2005, and you still haven't learnt that most people seem to form their opinion of the current manager based on the latest match only?
latest match only ?, we have won 4 out of 13 in the league, a minus goal difference, 6th bottom and only 3 points of the relegation places, i would suggest peoples opinions of the manager are based a little bit more than just the last game
Yes, obviously I was exaggerating a little there, but if we win the next match you'll see no one complaining here again.
true but the problem is its becoming 2 consistently inconsistent, 1 decent performance followed by 2 or 3 poor 1s, am not a hill hater by any stretch of the imagination, i want him to do well because if he does so does the team, but its startin to become more and more clear that the takeover needs to happen and quickly and if that means bringing there own manager with them, then so be it
Tired from Tuesday? Seriously? The only player that should have been tired from his efforts on Tuesday is Perkins and he should have been over it by Wednesday morning. Jesus Christ. We are talking about professional footballers - it's their fecking job to be fit.
Thats what I thought! this board has been polarised for months/years one good win and a big proportion of it is waxing lyrical and a bad one and a load of others want the manager out. That being said why you can't comment on a crappy display is beyond me, players are happy to take the plaudits so when they **** up on the basics (it has to be said far too often) fans have the right to say they are not pleased. By basics I mean in the case of the forwards an unwillingness to shoot (particularly from distance) don't hit the target often enough (in fact that applies even in the games with good performances) and in the case of the defence actually gifting the opposition with goals rather them having to work for it.
