    Silva was injured at Doncaster

As was Mido. O'Brien was injured at Rochdale. McNulty was injured at the end of training on the Friday prior to the opening match against Middlesbrough. Digby was injured during the warm up of that game.

He fell awkwardly at Rochdale and that's what did for him. Wasn't the usual run of the mill football injury he suffered.

Football's changed. Everybody is so bloody specialisd nowadays, players were far more adaptable back then. It is about options now to play within and to counter ever more complex formations and patterns of play. Plus the adaption of the European Cup into the champions league has demanded bigger squads. Then there's the massive increase in foreign players and managers to add to the homegrown not to mention the financial input of millions from media and chairmen. There is an enormous amount of players on the market from Africa and other developing nations who didn't have the opportunities back in the 80's, as well as the South Americans who can now make the move to European leagues far easier. When you add all these factors together you will find.... What was the point again? Sorry, I have completely forgotten what I was on about....

    Oh well. hth.

Silva was unfit when we signed him?
    Really. Don't think he was.

They can certainly play Tuesday and Saturday, but can they play at the same intensity levels, especially if they have had to go hard to the 90th minute in the first match. I thought Perkins and Mellis looked tired towards the end of the game on Saturday. Being "not up to it" has little to do with looking tired surely. You are linking several things together. In sport, you should never give yourself an excuse - true. Form is temporary: Class is permanent - true up to a point. Athletes should never get tired if they are fit - obviously not true or Usain Bolt would also be marathon record holder.

We have a few players with injury-plagued careers - Etuhu, McNulty, Mido, O'Brien etc.
We have a fair few players who have had little competitive game time at this level before - Silva, Cwyka, Mellis, Stones etc.
We then have plenty of players who are not exactly 'proven Championship' players - Perkins, Dawson, Golbourne, Wiseman, Dagnall, Digby, McNulty, Etuhu and so on.
All overseen by an inexperienced management team at this level.
I think these are key factors in our inconsistency.
    .
As an aside, I think we've been found out tactically, at home especîally.
