For me though, the fact that there was only 1700 extra fans at the Blackpool game is the big acid test. Not sure how much it cost for the Blackpool game 2 years ago but I reckon it was much more than the £12.50 we charged this year. This further dismisses the fact that people are staying away because of the price imo.

    That makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm not sure about that. The trend across all games are down from 09/10. It is a fairer comparison of the effect of a price decrease is to compare the Blackpool game with attendances for other games this season. Under which it obviously had a significant effect

That's the strangest analysis of a set of statistics I've ever read.

All attendances are significantly down from a previous season, except the one where we reduced prices, which is significantly higher, yet you conclude that match prices have no affect on attendance. Bizarre.

Yes and the Peterbro game if I recall wasn`t priced up the same, £20 this season wasn`t it a £10 game back then?

Fluctuating the prices has made it harder to compare attendances.

Sign of the times that we used to pull in crowds of 11,000 - 12,000 for matches against the likes of Bristol City & Palace but struggle to get past the 8,000 mark for most games now...

Is it possible to factor the travelling support into the Stats?it would be interesting to know how much,if at all, away fans were
    not coming.

How many season ticket holders did we have in 2009 compared to now? Seem to think that for quite a few years now we've basically been down to the bones of the season ticket holders at most games. Offers such as the Blackpool game will attract the casual punter or lapsed season ticket holder who thinks they'll go to the occasional game.
But for me it's part of the habit, seeing friends, the social aspect and going to a game every other week. If I stopped buying a season ticket then the routine goes, I have to make a decision a week before to go and buy a ticket or wait til the day and see what the weather is like! I didn't go to the Palace game because I was ill, but I didn't miss going either. I honestly think that if I were to not renew my season ticket then I'd stop going altogether.

    I agree entirely.

I didn't buy a season ticket and the routine has gone.

I don't miss it and it sorrows me to say that as it has been part of my routine since 1974

Why were there 18,000 against Middlesbrough?

Think theres a number of things (besides the recession) in years gone by when older fans drifted away for one reason or another there was always another football mad generation to fill the void but its not there anymore yes theres some interest but nowhere like the level there was before. Also as has been mentioned previously the season ticket thing is a factor, yes its good that they bring in money early for the club but it then complicates general offers later in the season to tempt others. When you think back to before we had so many season ticket holders you had a fair price on the day and thats when a lot decided to go on the day, now that same fan base will look at the full price and think its just not hope that makes sense

There's a saturation of football too. There were 4 live premier league games on this past weekend. It's just added competition for smaller clubs, especially in attracting the new generation of fans
