its extremlly wet being raining since 6 last night heavily, the wind is starting to get stronger about 30-40 mph at the moment 40 miles from here they have 2 ft of snow
Re: Good to hear you're still with us, mate there fine at moment there house is surrounded by big old oak tees so im worried they could come down onto the house. theres power outages too around the area there refusing to move but they did listen and are down in the basement.
Re: Good to hear you're still with us, mate I am no expert on these storms but, if there is going to be floods etc, surely being in the basement is not a good place to be? That will be the first place that floods! Or am I missing something here?
Re: Good to hear you're still with us, mate they wont flood mark its the falling tree problem through the roof as the house is single storey with a basement like many houses here
Re: How long before the storm subsides? the weather forecasters say probabaly thursday before the high winds and rain subside.
Thursday???? Bloody hell, mate. Through fear I think I'd just drink myself into a stupor, were I in your position.
Re: Thursday???? just packed emergency bag including 24 bottles of stella, the lights are flickering so power could go anytime, at least we thought ahead a booked into an hotel with friends. they have there own generator
Good man So, after drinking 24 bottles of Stella, you'll be somewhat relaxed when you get to the hotel.
Re: Good man good morning or afternoon for you guys. wow that was some night, power went out at 4 pm eastern time.we went to friends who had booked the hotel for us but they didnt want to leave their property. so we rode the storm out at home, the winds around 11 last night were huge but power now restored, hopefully for good . its still raining but i think the worst of the storm is now gone. going to have a walk round the neighbourhood and see if theres damage and get some pics of downed trees and the like. thankyou everyone for your kind words and good wishes. much appreciated UP THE REDS
Re: Good man Really good to hear you and yours have all come through unscathed mate. What they've shown on the news over here has looked pretty bad, and it seems that sadly there may have been some more fatalities overnight.
Re: Good man tar, theres been 10 fatalities i think most of which were around new york/new jersey sandy has killed about 70 since it started over haiti and cuba. one of the more deadly storms in recent history. we just think ourselves lucky really huge trees round here only 1 fell and that was in the kiddies play area just at the side of our apartment. ive not ventured further afield today so far as its wet, wet, wet.
Re: Good man Glad you are safe - the pictures we have had over here look pretty frightening even allowing for the media hyping things up it looked very bad did actually wonder if you would be able to post today or if you would be amongst those with no power
Re: Good man we got power restored sometime in the night. after driving round this afternoon there has hardly been any damage round the town where we live. this may be due to the fact that they had a dericho early in the summer(the day before i arrived here) which took out hundreds of trees and power lines. so the electricity company had a tree cutting where they tried to cut down trees that were growing over there wires. that first week i arrived our power was out for 8 days, in 35 degree c heat.
I hope you and yours are ok I wonder if private disaster contractors are rubbing their hands like they did after the New Orleans disaster.
