Think we need to work harder and have more variety/ imagination. Can anyone remember back in the 80 s when Gordon Owen used to hit them from outside the area? He had two teammates shielding the ball, with their backs to goal, in a sort of wall. At the last second, they separated, and Owen hit the ball. We seemed to score every week like that...(or maybe it's my Rose tinted specs). Wonder why teams don't try that now? Gives the keeper very little time to see the ball.
I agree with that. More variety and make it less obvious that we just want to take it quickly and pass it short. We have the players to deliver quality crosses and shots.
Do we though? not much quality on the set-piece front. i agree though rather than a quick free kick back to foster then back to keeper at least get it in the danger area, never know might get a slice of luck like a deflection etc. set-pieces is one area where we should be profiting on, we havent got the quality in open play to hurt teams so lets make the most of these 'free kicks'
I can't see them changing any time soon It's down to priorities. Our priorities are to keep possession and to complete passes. If we fire our set pieces in to the area there's a good chance we'll lose possession. There's also a chance we'll score a goal, but that isn't the priority, it's to keep possession. So we take a short free kick making sure we keep possession. We know it won't lead to a goal, but that doesn't matter because keeping possession is king.
Our set pieces under Keith Hill are the worst set pieces I have ever seen at any football club. And i'm not exaggerating.
You certainly don't Always using logic and reason and never making a gigantic leap of faith in order to try and prove a point. But I still like you.
Re: You certainly don't It is something we need to work on more. It's a valuable exercise not only in trying to create shooting/goalscoring opportunities for ourselves, but also how to defend against them and to anticipate opposition set plays. We were well done by that fairly obvious Ipswich switch (excuse me!) of play, despite Bennannikk!! diving over a fairly timid shot. I'm surprised Scott Wiseman didn't put his neck out with his hapless double-take.
we had a free kick in the dying seconds yesterday and they still didnt even manage to get it into the box.. yes we have good possesion but its getting us nowhere because no one is making any decent runs to get any further forward, free kicks that end up with the keeper getting possesion within half a dozen kicks its pointless... we never threatened the goal yesterday and thats what is worrying.
