Went into town this morning, couldn't move for charity collectors! Just getting bombarded by collectors for Shelter, Dogs Trust and a couple of others trying to get you to sign up to donate......is Monday morning in Barnsley an optimal place to get people to sign up to donate to charity?

Then on way back from Morrison's saw what looked suspicious like a drug deal from a car and then the driver, rather than continuing onto the road from junction he'd pulled up at, dangerously reversed at speed. Unfortunately I didn't get the full number of the car.

I was in Aylesbury last week and Wensbury, both a lot more affluent than Barnsley and they are in just the same state.

I was just surprised at the number of people trying to get folk to sign up for charities. I wouldn't have thought Barnsley on a Monday morning was rich picking grounds.

I try to avoid town as much as possible, I noticed last week that next to Lidl a quality save as opened, what a advert for people coming into town

I'm giving this subject a wide berth... I was accused of being a snob last time for passing comment.

people where I work use both these stores.. what's your point Eastand Lower

Indeed, some of the women who use these stores work full time and so do their husbands/partners so they can hardly be classed as people on the breadline. Therefore, it suggests to me that these shops are not used exclusively for those on lower incomes. Even then, what would it matter? Incidentally, Quality Save have some very good bargains. I always thought shopping was about getting value for money, or are we to believe that its just a Barnsley thing and that may embarrass some posters on here?

I think I must be snobbish as on a day off if I have to go to town I wear decent clothes and have a shave and whatever I can to show I'm in work not on cider

There aren't any snobs on this board, some perhaps, may think they're a cut above others and may get accused of being snobs, but they're not. We use Aldi, Tesco,Morrisons, Marks and Spencers, Iceland, Asda.We Have used kwik Save and Nettos in the past, so what category of shoppers we are, I not so sure?

In town, I often visit Greggs. I get £40 of shopping from Iceland once a week, delivered. I occasionally pop in Quality Save for the branded - but cheap in price - **** roll, and the odd cleaning item.
I use the fruit n veg market, for my fruit n veg (serious), and I get my smoking paraphenalia from Poundland.
I do all this in about half hour and swiftly leave. I hate the place, but I do use these shops.
However, it's a shame that upon entering town you are met with what we've got. But such is life.

It is a shame that there are low lifes frequenting the Town centre, however, this is not exclusively a Barnsley thing. I work in Tarn and walk through evrey Lunchtime and early evening, and I've noticed that the undesirables are less noticable at peak shopping days/times. Anyway, my poin tis its not exclusive to Barnsley and I never feel threatened or embarrassed anything like that when in Tarn.
