And didn't moan 1/10th as much - Andy Ritchie and Gudjon Thordarsson. Andy Ritchie lost Jacob Burns in the winter but still managed to get promoted. He then lost McPhail over the summer and went into the season in a higher division with almost the same squad with the exception of a Crystal Palace reserve, a winger from League One and a 17 yeard old striker from the Conference. He played some good football at first, lost his way a bit and got the boot. He was stoic throughout and did no worse than Hill. As for Thordarsson, he built a team on free transfers, lost his only striker to Swindon Town and kept us in touch of the play offs until the club shat on him and brought in PHart. Never once did he complain about his treatment at the club. I met Gudjon at a supporter's club meeting and he was an absolute top bloke and extremely personable. Hill could learn a thing or two from people like this.
No manager has ever had it as hard as he did and like you said he never moaned about the budget despite us being in administration.
A football manager is not a robot, he's a human being with a personality, with character traits and flaws. They all react to situations differently. Some folk just like to moan and whine all their lives, and will never be happy. Surely you more than anyone can appreciate this?
Ritchie - you make it sound like he didn't have the funds to spend. He did. He was also in charge of a squad that had been expensively pulled together by him and Hart. Not dissing his achievement but you're missing your favourite ingredient - context. Gudjon - joined at a time when we were in admin so was well aware of the limitations. Did really well and was then **** on by Ridsdale. You're also comparing achievements when their major ones were in the league below. I met Keith at a dinner/sportsmans event and he was a top bloke and extremely personable, too.
Enlighten me, it was reported on here that he went out celebrating, at the same time mcp was being tapped up!
I find that story hard to believe as I bumped into all the team including Ritchie at Cardiff Tesco Express straight after the play-off final, they were buying food and drink for the coach journey back .
Wasn't that supposed to be chopra who was wanting to discuss a contract but he was out celebrating instead? that was utter ******** too because one of the promotion team who played in the final told me two days after the final that chopra had spoke to them on the phone on the bus home.
Separate. Yeah was told the Chopra one. I have since been "straightened" but it was mentioned on here that he was out on the lash celebrating and was told to tie up mcp. But was too late he had already gone by the end of that night. Like I said, I've been updated but it was written on here. By whom, I can't remember but can't be arsed to search for it either
didn't Richie say something like, Barnsley will never ever get back in the premier league and they should never expect to. Think he as sacked a bit later also difference with Richie and Hill is that Richie had funds to spend but didn't, hill hasn't got the choice.
Ritchie said that Barnsley would not get back into the Premiership, WITHOUT large investment!! Not EVER!!! Hill has spent more than Ritchie had.
What context am I missing? Thordarsson had the most difficult job of any manager and never complained. With Ritchie I was referring to the fact that he was struggling in the Championship and wasn't back but he got on with it. How was Ritchie's side expensively put together? It was free transfers and youth players with the exception of Howard.
