There were two dugouts for the St John Ambulance. One at the bottom of the brewery stand, close to the Ponty, and the other at the bottom of the terrace near the Kop. The one near the Kop had holes at the bottom of the wall to allow water to drain away, whilst the one at the Ponty end didn't. Some of the older ones amongst us will remember a game against Cambridge in the League Cup around 1982/3 that was abandoned shortly after half time due to a waterlogged pitch. The deluge really came down at half-time. I was a St John Ambulance cadet and used to sit in the Ponty end dugout, but had gone round to the first aid room at half time to try to warm up. By the time I got back to the dugout my dad was perched on the bench in the dugout unable to put his feet down, because the dugout was full to ground level with water. He eventually had to make a rather undignified exit from the dugout. There was nothing for it for us but to sit in the rain until the referee put everybody out of our misery. I don't think I've ever been as wet and was glad we didn't have any sprained ankles to look after, because I'd just about lost all sensation in my fingers by half time!
Re: What's the prize? Can't I have a prize too for getting it right, having said that if it's a speedboat JLWBL can have it.
Re: A speedboat? In Dodworth? Ah, that's what you could have won! Any way it's too small, it'd sink out of fear!! This is yours.... I got you a red one!
Good grief You just organise delivery of my new car and tanker, please. <img src ="http://www.hatsandcaps.co.uk/images/articles/art-picasso-harlequin.jpg">
Re: Good grief And a Piccasso? Blumming ummer, all you had to do was spot the stretcher bearing footballer!!! This will cost me a packet. Okay, the car and oil tanker are on their way, the painting might take longer to arrange.... Should've made it a dusty bin.
