For showing respect to your manager and your club.Bobby is a terrific servant to our club and although no doubt he wants to play he understands and respects Keith Hills decision to have him as a squad player(his words not mine). If a chance comes for Bobby to go on loan to get some game time so be it.As a massive Bobby fan I would like to keep him at Oakwell because I feel the squad needs him.Would he be in my team on Saturday? I'm not two sure I feel we have potentially the best right back this club has ever produced in John Stones a view in fact endorsed by Bobby Hassell himself. All good things come to an end but I think Bobby will hopefully stay the coarse here at Barnsley and eventually may leave after a well deserved testimonial match.
I am sure he gets paid well , a testimonial would be an embarrasment to him considering our crowds at present (2,000 my guess)
Whether he deserves a testimonial or not, I can't see him being given a new contract so the testimonial by default after ten years won't happen. I'd like to see him get one, maybe next Summer when he inevitably leaves, but the powers that be are so out of touch with the supporters these days I can't see it happening.
Only thing Id like him to get is a P45 He might be a decent guy, although I haven't met him, but its a football club and you cannot stand and wait at a football club. Things move on. And sometimes quickly. If we kept hold of all the older players at the club we would now be out of business.
We are in a relegation fight, Keith expects us to drop into the bottom three, you don't get rid of experienced reliable versatile players who will lead by example . John Stones is a future talent, the emphasis on future. Getting shut of Bobby just doesn't make sense, we need him, Keith is showing his inexperience ,he hasn't learnt from last season when we were defacto relegated
That's a nice thing to wish on our longest serving player. I will be very sorry to see him go but when he does go I hope he finds success wherever he ends up. If it was up to me he'd get another year, his testimonial and a coaching role when he retired - I can't think of a better mentor for our younger players.
Suppose you've got to say would you get more points with Stones or Hassell at right back - given that it's a tough one to call I'd go with Stones seeing as he is a more long-term player. Not sure what Keith is on saying Hassell would only be considered for central midfield though, surely if Stones is injured you've got to play him. I like Kennedy but he couldn't be more left-sided if he tried.
There's no competition between Stones and Hassall..........Stones is a better player at 18 than Hassell has ever been Keith Hill has told Bobby Hassell that the only position open to him now is defensive central midfielder Thats because, and I've recently said this, Hassell is too slow for any position in the back 4 But Hassell isn't going to play defensive midfield because Perkins, Dawson, McNulty and Crannie are all better in that position than Hassell is. So if I was Bobby Hassell I would be looking for another club..........probably in the 1st Division, because I think he would have something to contribute at a club like Donny or Sc.unthorpe
Who's mentioned keeping all our older players? We are on about one guy here. If we got rid of all of our older players our team would lack experience.
He's got more ability and potential yes but have you actually seen all his performances this season? From the sublime to the ridiculous (almost), which is what one would expect from an 18 year old. BH would offer a more 'steady' option.
Didnt Stones say Hassell has helped him become the player he is? He may not be good enough for 1st team but he's brilliant in dressing room, training and community work.If any Barnsley supporter doesnt see that then they are blind.
