    I'd prefer McNulty.

My back 4, if all fit, would be Hassell Foster Edwards McNulty. Not a chance of it happening like, but that's what I would go for. For me, the primary purpose of a defender is to defend and in my opinion those are the best defenders in those positions we've got at the club. Other players offer more going forward, but as a lot of the goals we've conceded this season are as a result of defenders being caught up field, getting defenders forward wouldn't be a priority for me. Back to basics.

    I am a dinosaur.

Me too, first job a defender has is defending, it is a bonus if they can help out going forwards too. Maybe thats why I liked the Wilson system of wingbacks, both of them could defend as well as any other fullback in the league, but they gave us an extra dimension to our attacks.
One of my favourite goals at Oakwell was scored by Eaden after being put through by Thompson against the Blunts. Great goal but their main job was defending.

Is this our preferred choice or what he'll pick (which I thought)

Absolutely zero pace, we'd get ripped to shreds.

No we would not, they are all good tacklers, they would not let the opponents get passed, you dont have to run at the side of someone to be a defender!!

It'll never happen so we'll never find out, but I wouldn't say Foster, Hassell and McNulty have zero pace. I've seen Barnsley play with much slower defenders.

Probably the best central defender I've seen play for Barnsley was Paul Futcher and he was much slower than any of the above, he had no pace at all, but he was excellent. If you're not asking your defenders to bomb up and down the pitch then pace isn't all that important.

What's the width of the pitch? they can't 'tackle' all of that. Any half decent through ball and they'd be 1 on 1.
