Jacob Mellis, heart of a pea?

Did he actually commit himself to a single challenge today?

 

I think he's unfairly becoming a scapegoat if I'm honest. There were worse players than him on the pitch.

 

There were worse players but there weren't any showing less commitment in my opinion. On the ball he did ok but when challenging for the ball he backed out of everything. **** scared of getting hurt and got an engine that lasts for 30 seconds as well.

 

He got the **** kicked out of him for most of the game. I think he worked hard tracking back playing in a position that's completely alien to him.

He's not the toughest lad in the World but hearing people cheer when he was subbed was embarrassing - we took off the only player likely to score a goal out of nothing and the only player capable of creating one.

 

If Mellis is to play out wide it has to be on the right. I like him, he is capable of scoring and creating. 8 assists and 3 goals I think, he has been one of our better players so far. Agree that jimbo should be used out wide though.

 

Its ADS all over again. Mellis that is.

 

ADS, at his peak, was a better player than Mellis.

Maybe ADS will rediscover this form........wishful thinking on my part?

 

Well said. I thought he did ok too, he wad played out of position (again) and was kicked quite a lot but he did ok while he was on the pitch. Why Hill plays him as a winger when we have JOB on the bench is beyond me.

 

I didn't know peas had a heart. Pea-brains are quite common, I believe. So I'm told.

Are there? Like who? Hasn't had a good game in months, can't tackle, can't pass. Its exactly the same as when he was on loan here, 3 or 4 good games and then nothing. In fairness to him last night he was on the wing, but id rather have O'Brien out there.

 

Yes. Quite a few. Obviously missed the bit where he ended up in the Ponty after chasing a ball down, couple of challenges on Trippier as well.

 

That's all he did all night. Spent most of the time on his arse, it was pretty embarrassing when he walked into the Burnley player claiming he'd been elbowed.

He doesn't look interested half of the time, and spends all game arguing with the referee. For me, had we played a winger last night, we'd have won comfortably. First decent ball into the box we scored from.

I'm amazed.

He's a young lad, first full season, started off like a house on fire, couple of goals, assists etc. He's lost a bit of form lately but been moved around, not in his best position and I think he's doing ok.

I don't know what people expect.

 

Which is fair enough, but Alnwick had a dip in form, people got on his back, same with Wiseman. For me, Mellis has been poor since late September, and he's not played all of it out of position, I'd be interested to know how many of his assists have come since the Birmingham game.

 

I'd have dropped him last night for O'Brien, no doubt. But he's being persevered with because he's the next one on the list that gets sold next Jan for nowt.

 

Agree 100%.

He took two heavy challenges from Stock (who definately targeted him) and the referee should have issued a yellow card after the second one to offer some sort of protection.

He can look out of sorts at times (and I'm a fan of his), but the crowd reaction to the substitution was awful.
