Re: You've completely ignored the fact that McNulty is returning from injury Mcnulty was poor at derby. Poor Saturday....
He's not match fit he'll improve with game time. Wiseman has started every game, cant say that about him.
I have my viewing page in threaded mode , you obviously don't ,I wasn't replying to your post but now I am I suspect if you were given a white sheet of paper and a black pen you'd wipe your arse with the paper and draw a knob (self portrait) on the toilet wall with the pen
Re: One cross No!. I pointed out that the lack of goals is a bigger problem than conceding and I pointed out that as well as almost costing us two goals in the last two games, he does not get forward as well as Wiseman.
Lack of goals is a problem, I agree. So why we play Mellis out of position and then in principle play with him and RNL as wide men but then have them keep tucking in to leave Davies to have to go wide. The football at times under Hill is good but as been as bad as anything under the previous two. I don't particularly enjoy tippy tappy passing that gets us nowhere...you obviously do but this isn't the Academy...
Re: One cross My criticism of him is not that he's caught upfield at all...its more that he seems unable to tackle when wingers run at him at full back, and at centre half he isn't capable of staying with his man in the danger area,.....as you say there are other players who've failed to do that, but Wiseman is certainly the worst culprit
As I said right at the start of this thread, I would have picked either Mellis or Buzsaky in centre midfield. The other would have been on the bench. Tippy-tappy football seems to be the current stick with which to beat Hill, but frankly, it does not begin to describe what is going on. Once we win the ball in defense, I want us to keep it because doing so prevents the opposition from scoring. Just launching the ball forward in the general direction of the front men is the opposite extreme, and results in the opposition winning the ball back and creating waves of increasing pressure. I assume the phrase tippy-tappy means that we are taking too long to get the ball forward. I do not disagree, but I think that it is a symptom of another, deeper problem, rather than the manager telling the team to play one twos at the edge of our box. I think that the problem is that in order to deliver the ball forward quicker, the player with the ball needs players in space ahead of him. Firstly, we lack width, so the usual outlet out wide is not available. Secondly, we lack pace. That problem is two fold. There is no pace in central midfield who need to get forward quickly in support of the front two. In this, I would be critical of Greening's effect on the game. The second problem is the lack of pace out wide, which prevents the team delivering crosses from better angles. Sadly, there is no-one at the club who will adequately solve these problems and the club does not have the resources to buy in the talent. So currently, there is a big problem. If I am correct in my analysis, it makes no sense whatsoever to remove Wiseman's pace from the equation.
We have become to easy to play against. Visitors get ten behind the ball and wait for us to lose it. I don't remember one occasion all season when we have passed the ball thro' the opposition and scored. Last night we produced an early ball and Tudgay did what he does. Opponents get a free kick on half way and put the ball into the box. We get a free kick move it five yards and it finishes up in Luke Steele's possession and usually he's under pressure. I'm all in favour of keeping possession but we've got to mix it up a bit and even occasionally put the ball into row Z. As Shankly once remarked they can' t score from there. Put yourself in the opposition Manager's chair and work out how to beat Barnsley
I agree. Trying to beat a defense where it is strongest, i.e down the centre, makes no sense at all, hence the need for width. Since we appear to agree on this, the only question that remains is, do we have that width at the club, and do the players who are responsible for providing the width have sufficient quality to find the space behind the full back and provide decent crosses. If the answer is no, how do we solve that problem with no cash to buy better players, and does it make any sense to remove our quickest player from the equation.
If you had read the rest of the thread, you would know that I am advocating that Wiseman returns to the side at full back. Now McNulty is back, we are adequately served at centre-back. If you remember, the players voted McNulty player of the season last year, and whilst his form has not yet returned due to his long injury, I believe that it will with more games. I suspect your point about Wiseman's ability extends to full back, in which case, I would have to disagree.
Re: One cross Conceding goals is not killing us as much as not scoring at the other end! Any fool can see we need wide men getting balls into the box! We've got plenty of wide men cywka o'brien silva Lazarus and done so why not utilise them and get them running at the full backs and getting balls into and around the box? Until this happens I just can't see us improving.
O'brien is more than capable but needs a run in the team cywka looks best when running at people silva looked tricky at hull when he came on and Lazarus needs to play on the left to show what he can do! Done for me has had plenty of chances and just not been good enough though!
