Barnsley boss Keith Hill admits captain Luke Steele and striker Craig Davies could leave the club in January. Both players are out of contract in the summer and Hill told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It'd be brilliant in a perfect world to get it sorted out because they're probably two sought after players. "I really don't know if they'll be here in the summer. If the club receives substantial offers for them in January then I should imagine they'll be considered." Taken from the BBC website... Its almost like inviting clubs to come and shaft us and get our best players on the cheap!!
He's setting the bar that little bit lower. In another two years we'll be happy that we're still in the Football League.
Terrible to hear our manager say something so negative. Who's going to want to buy an half season ticket off the back of the man in charge talking up the possibility of losing our best two players? Off the back of three months without an home win the best way of selling half season tickets would be to get at least one of these two signed up pronto. Should they go for under a million in January just like Vaz did last year, just watch season ticket sales next year.
I agree with you - in fact I wonder if it is a deliberate ploy to try and get people to come and offer something now rather than have them go for nowt in the summer One thing I can say with a fair amount of confidence is if we sell Steele and Davis in January I can get our my map of 3rd division grounds for next season as I will definitely need it the only other possibility is this is trying to get Patrick/Gordon to try and sort something out now!
It's not Keith you should all be moaning about, he doesn't offer contracts out. I'm sure they were both on his list of 'recommendations'.
It could be a ploy to force us to offer new contracts? He's made public what we all suspected...that come January these 2 would be up for sale. Now there will be a backlash with fans going ape-**** (rightly imho) and it may force the club to see that we should be doing whatever we can to keep these 2. Its just a possibility......
We haven't won at home for three months. We are now barely out of the relegation zone. Weather reports are predicting -20 and the coldest winter in 100 years. Yet we are trying to make people fork out 200 notes for an half season ticket on the back of our manager talking up the chances of us losing our best two players. Bad public relations is an understatement.
Sounds like a straight forward answer to a question to me, if a little bit resigned to the possibility of losing these players. What is he supposed to say? That's how it is in reality, why put the flannel on it? I'm sure contract talks will be going on or at least offered and clubs have never needed an invitation to come poaching at Oakwell.
thats them off then in January oh dear.As Farnham red says, we better get the league one ground guide out then.
KH can't exactly come out and say they won't get sold. Don best get his finger out though anyway if he doesnt at least offer new contracts all hell is going to break loose anyway.
It makes it even worse when Steele has come out and said that he loves the club and obviously would like to stay. Hill says that he isn't even thinking about contracts at the minute. So what do we do, just not even bother trying to keep them at all?
isn't it possible that the football club (n nar i always think o that daft lancs accent when i think those 2 words!) have tried to negotiate new contracts but steele is unsettled and davies thinks he's worth more? we are and always be a selling club, if the price is right sell em and pump the money straight back in and not sell on panic day, the vaz te debacle cost us thousands and 2 more weeks would have seen us relegated
Steele has pretty much said he loves the club and would like to stay hasn't he? Even if he has said he wants to look at his options, why not at least offer him a contract instead of waiting till after January. You couldn't make it up. Same goes for Davies. At least put something on the table and show a willingness to keep him, what harm can it do?
