I respect both you and your opinion, mate A few weeks ago, I heard a rumour that Keith Hill was to be moved on & Ronnie Branson appointed caretaker manager for the foreseeable future. It's probably gibberish, but would tie in with your valid points with regards to salary and budget.
Re: You could well be right Is there a case to apply the hiring and firing of managers every 18 months without moving forward to the Einstein quote? Compared to when managers have been sacked in the past, at least green shoots are there. We ARE playing decent stuff and we ARE creating chances, unlike the final days of Davey, Spackman etc. At least it dies look like goals and points might be around the corner.
Re: I respect both you and your opinion, mate Same here. Your OP is the one that scares me the most regarding the managerial situation as it confirms that the rational thinking fanbase (rather than the over-reactionary ones who you can predict will be posting at 4:45pm after every defeat) are starting to seriously think it's time for a change. It makes it much harder to believe that I'm still sharing the majority view among supporters. Everyone is entitled to their views, and the whole point of this board is surely for those to be shared and debated, yet this feels like the first completely rational debate I've had with anyone on the Hill issue. Deep down, I think we're all sharing the same pain, and fumbling around for the same answers when, in reality, there aren't any that truly appeal. COYR
It might just be me, mate A couple of wins might give everyone a huge boost. As for the point of playing decent stuff, I thought we were woeful against Huddersfield, the same again against Cardiff apart from the last 20 minutes. For the Burnley match, it took us over half an hour to start showing anything like attacking intent and then it was only spasmodic for the rest of the game. I'm one of the board's Happy Clappers, so I usually look for positives anywhere and everywhere I can. At the moment, I can't find any positives. Just my opinion and I'd love it to be thrown back in my face if there's a sustained upturn in our fortunes. Barnsley's success is far more important to me than my ego and a need to be right.
I've backed him all the way, but I must admit after today I'm very close to changing my mind. If he loses next 2 games he's got to go.
Unfortunately Kev, I'm starting to come round to this as well Nobody would be happier than me if he turned it round. But at this moment in time, I can't see any sign of this happening.
Re: Unfortunately Kev, I'm starting to come round to this as well As Special Agent Oso would say "Sounds like a plan!" (How can you tell I've got grandkids?) PS I loved the post about Cheri Lunghi as manager. Get's my vote!!
I'm shocked(!) <img src ="http://wijzeman.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/cherie_lunghi-18.jpg?w=375&h=225">
Hold your nerve people!! It is hard to deny that by any rational measure, he is running out of time. However, after the last change of manager we all, as Barnsley fans, pretty much to a man, said that we had to stop changing managers at the first sign of trouble and try and build a bit of stability. That's easy to say when things are bouncing, but we no doubt are in a spot of trouble now and I think we need to stick to that principle now that it is being put to the test. I think that there are signs that we can be a reasonable side as we have seen it this season on more than one occasion. I think this is now starting to turn into a confidence problem - they are becoming scared of the situation, and If he can just get through this with just a couple of results then confidence can return and we can turn the corner. We have seen so many times in the past few years that changing managers is not the route to heaven, particularly when we are shopping for managers in the "untried" or "failed and on last chance" bucket. Some of the managers being mentioned will simply not be interested in a position at Barnsley when we are bottom 4, have no money, have a big question mark over ownership and are shipping fans. It's just not an attractive proposition, even for people like Jewell who are running out of options. I am very very worried that this is turning into a classic relegation slide, but I do not think that is anything to be gained from moving Hill out now. We neeed to hold our nerve.
Maybe so. But, they didn't earn any of their goals today. The third was a compete disgrace. Rather than prevent a quick free kick, Cranie chose to argue with the referee. Any half decent amateur would have prevented that goal. It summed up how unprofessional this team has become. If Keith is to retain his job there needs to a complete shake up of attitude.
Re: Common sense dictates Good post mate, we are shopping at aldi for a reason, you cant tell me if the board turned round to Hill and gave him a few bob he turned around refused and said no he wanted lower league players, who he could smarten up. Money has just been made available not at the start of the season and yes he should have brought in a center back I'll agree with that. Hill has had to work under more constraints than most of our previous managers and we should judge him as such, as my dad used to say "I couldnt give you £10 and ask me to get £20 worth of snap! Unless I'm missing something all managers would want a budget and to bring their own people in, can we afford all that on a new "gamble" manager an aldi manager.......mmmmm,
Re: Common sense dictates The Board haven't, since he was appointed, but I don't think that's a trust issue. Not sure why anyone thinks it would be any different for a new manager. It was telling that all the recent loan signings were only until January. Time will tell what extent we'll be doing permanent business in the transfer window.
Re: Hold your nerve people!! It's not the first sign of trouble though. We've been terrible throughout 2012.
