Lowest so far this season is just below 8k against Peterborough. Lowest in 09/10 was around 11k against Peterborough. So take the 3k and multiply it by £25 for an average ticket at Oakwell and you have £75k. Take that as an average loss of fans per game and you have £1725000 in losses just in tickets for the season. Quite a hefty loss really isn't it?
It is, but remember how cheap that game was, off the back of a great result at Charlton when optimism was still relatively high. I think the pricing is only part of the problem here. I would be willing to bet that if every game this season was priced at £20, the attendances would have only been around 250-500 higher. Naturally such an increase would have been very welcome, but still well well down on previous campaigns. The continual struggle, combined with the repetition of playing the same clubs year in year out, has led to the crowd decline as much as the prices, for me.
price elasticity of demand in economists' terms - I personally think the 3 tier system was gonna work better as very few people would begrudge £30 for the likes of Leeds, Wednesday, Huddersfield & maybe Cardiff, Blackburn & Bolton. less attractive matches need to be under £20 if you are gonna tempt people
i do agree with you that £25 is too much for the level of entertainment, however competing on wages & transfers means maximising income & I think the tiered way does this & gets folks to matches like Peterbro', Millwall, Charlton, etc at £18 & most will go see Leeds even if it is £30
