Nah , I am only jesting, I have been involved in the Church for most of my life. I started going to Sunday school, I enjoyed it too, they had a football team as well. I went to a church primary school, well I went to two and 2 that were not church schools, then as I got into my teens , i went off the rails and became a bit of a tearaway, I forgot about God and concentrated on girls , football and motorbikes. I drank too much, smoked and got into fights all to often. Then when I was 23 and had just got married , I realised just what an arse I had been and started to read the Bible again, i found that although I wanted to go to Church again, I did not enjoy going to the C of E anymore. I went to several others until I found one that I enjoyed attending, one that I had never thought about until one evening I was walking past and heard a band practicing. They sounded great and I walked in and sat at the back and listened, Then I realised that this was the place I had been searching for, the place that I needed to be. I know that there are plenty of people that don`t believe in God, but I know he guided me to that place and I have enjoyed going to Church ever since. I now go to a very similar one in Wakefield as I now live here. Hope that answers your question.
Doncaster Rovers August 1967, we won 1-0, I was 5 years old and we didnt lose a game at home that season, I thought we were the greatest team in the world, I didnt go to any evening games though.
Re: Glory hunter!! When you are 5 years old and your team cant lose, or it seems like it anyway, its fantastic. That soon got knocked out of me soon after
As I said yesterday This was the first game I attended:- http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/results_service/1968_1969/10/aug/index.shtml The following season, my late Father got me my first season ticket and I've had one ever since. This was the first game:- http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/results_service/1969_1970/9/aug/index.shtml The winning goal was scored from the penalty spot, but I can't remember the scorer. Once again, many thanks to Tykes Mad for this very useful facility. I bet Turvey Tyke knows the answer!
Re: As I said yesterday I had completely forgotton about Bournemouth`s name being Bournemuth and Boscombe Athletic, when did they become AFC Bournemouth? Anyone know?
My very first game was a friendly against Leicester I think we lost but can't quite remember, it was back in the 70s I was only a little nipper, all I do remember is asking my dad for a Leeds shirt...yeah I know I know....now my dad was never one for going to matches but he made sure there was only one team I was going to support,
Re: As I said yesterday This is one thing I love about the BBS, a thread starts about Bobby Hassell and his wife on twitter, goes through Religion and ends up with 3 old gits talking about Bournemouth !!! Bloody fantastic thread , well done everyone !!!
Re: Phil Boyer was his strike partner there mine was 65,66 can't remember who we played or what score was tbh:redface: but i know it was just before world cup.
