Here's the link if anyone's interested; http://www.footballrants.com/england/championship/why-keith-hill-is-the-right-man-for-barnsle/544 Daresay most on here will disagree with me!!
What fecking green shoots, think you've been on the ganja mate. A new manager might go forward, might get crosses and shots in on goal. If we're going down, let's go down giving it a go.
Haha no, not those green shoots! Listening to his interview after the Burnley game, he sounded as if he was disappointed with the players for not getting the ball in early enough. Didn't see the Watford game so can't comment on whether it was any different, but hopefully we'll start to give it a go as you say in future.
While I think you have put your opinion over well, that is all it is mate , your opinion and not one that I agree with. If it was just a blip from after the Brum game i would be inclined to agree with you, but if you continually bleat about having no money, how everyone else has better players etc, then have a look at YOUR team and find you have 40 players to choose from, it looks like you are abundantly blessed with riches ! If these players are not good enough then why but the feckers? Then we can look at the tactics, the ones that have brought us the least number of goals (equal) in the division, having no width on the field because you play the wingers on the wrong side and they continually cut inside, then there is the fact that we are so bloody slow at going forwards it makes it impossible to pass the ball to your forwards in any decent position. Then there is the whole playing right back in centre of defence, a centre back at rightback, a supposed ball playing defender that cannot actually pass the ball to any teammates and is bloody rubbish at defending as well. Then you could mention that the main striker we have ends up so far wide he is wasted, because there is not any other player out there! Then there is all the guff about Hassell ! So then I think we are quickly getting to the point of no return, because Hill will not get us back up if we do go down, his record in league one is not that clever either. someone has to step up and take a grip of the situation and quickly !!
Thanks madmark, I do actually agree with a lot of your points aswell. I can't really back Keith up when it comes to the defensive situation and would love to see some width in the side like you mention. Although at least the penny DOES seem to have dropped that some of his signings aren't good enough, rather that and end up with a squad of 40 than carry on slugging away with a poorer quality squad of 30. But as I say, can't think of anyone to come in that I'd be confident of turning things around with the players we've got. We've played sides off the park and beaten them already this season and last so lets hope we can get back to that, cos whatever we all think, I can't see Keith being sacked unless a takeover goes through.
As a fellow writer, may I thank you for your article, which was put together well and very good to read. Quality. I admire your belief in KK, too. But, and for a lot of the reasons you outlined yourself, I gave up on my messiah over the last few weeks. Turns out he's just another manager unable to take this great club forward. I do still back him, for now, but my faith went a while ago.
Bit harsh that statement, considering he's only managed in League One for a single season. And he did finish 9th, 3pts off the play offs. Which was Rochdale's highest league finish in 40 odd years. And they finished above Wednesday and Charlton. And somehow got 17 goals out of Gary Jones. Not too shabby
I'm also in the 'lost faith'camp. I had immense belief in Hill until recently but its just gone now and unless things change I can't see it coming back. I thought your article was good and I did agree with some points but not all. He has to sort the formation issues, play his best team (not his mates) and eat a lot of humble pie regarding the Hassle situation that he alone has created.
That is a well written article, mate I don't agree with everything you've said, but you've put forward a well reasoned argument. Merlin & yourself ought to be extremely proud of yourselves with regards to the quality of your articles this season. Once again, well done mate.
Re: That is a well written article, mate Very well written and an enjoyable read Kev - and as close to my own point of view as anyone is likely to get. But just because I choose to stick by Keith Hill doesn't mean he's in any way beyond reproach. In fact he needs a good arse kicking if anything, particularly regarding the back four farce and Hassellgate. If we lose Luke Steele after he's pledged his commitment, my opinion on Hill will radically change.
Mario......the voice of reason.......fully agreed with you Anyway, the question that has alwasy intrigued me is : why Mario Kempes and not Leopoldo Luque?
So you should be As you're one of the most talented, witty contributors historically on the BBS, the only draw back is you don't post anywhere near enough these days. Even when you're posting things I don't like, or disagree with, I still enjoying your postings. Pick up the pace!
good read that. I think it is pretty balanced - it points out the concerns over the defence & some of keith's decisions i.e. bobby, whilst making the point for continuity in the absence of any obvious heir apparant.
Re: That is a well written article, mate I'm a bit disappointed with mine. I could go on at length about the reasons...
Thanks Merlin, I've enjoyed reading your pieces this season too which have all been excellent and echoed many of my sentiments. Looking forward to reading many more
