Following on from Super Tyke's thread on remakes of films I would start with Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache by Dexys Midnight Runners. The original is also a superb track, but Dexys added an extra verse and a killer key change at the end. R.E.M.'s version of Love is All Around is also at least on a par with The Troggs' original. The less sad about the Wet Wet Wet version the better. Actually, R.E.M. played huge amounts of cover versions live, very few of which were inferior to the originals even if some were rather different.
Futureheads - Hounds of Love Amazing cover. Cribs 'Modern Way' is also far better than the Kaisers version
Re: Futureheads - Hounds of Love Not heard that, but Modern Way is my favourite Kaisers track by miles. Will check it out tomorrow.
Should read a cover version you prefer to the original? It's a matter of taste not fact. Not better or preferable, but I'm quite fond of Pavement's version of Killing Moon. Very faithful and respectful to the original but just by Pavement.
Re: Futureheads - Hounds of Love I'm a biased Cribs fans mate so I would take what I say with a pinch of salt (especially with the Kaisers supporting Leeds United ....)
That's a really good call. On the same theme, I love Carter USM's version of Down In The Tube Station At Midnight, it is absolutely corking, though I wouldn't dare to say that it's better than the original. Might cause some controversy!
Patty Smyth's version of Downtown Train and Metallica do a cracking version of Bob Seger's Turn The Page
Yes, it probably should, but as I have just downed a bottle of Cava I can be forgiven. As can you for your pedantry, virtue of the fact that you like Pavement. Gold Soundz one of my all time favourite tracks.
