On the issue of guns I think that it's more than just the NRA that is ****ed up. Last year more people than the entire population of Barnsley were shot in america.

 

and how many in the UK compare that to the size of america and im guessing there would be around the same gun related crime.

 

I know, that whole "we need a gun to protect our property" thing, how often does that prove to be the case?

Much more likely the gun will be used against the householder, or a family member will be shot by accident, or it will be used for suicide.

Wonder who funds the NRA as well, arms companies by any chance?

 

Honestly, listening to that guy I did not know whether to laugh, cry or just swear at the TV. Utter imbecile.

I don't for 1 minute believe that he represents the views of the American nation as a whole. But when gun ownership is 93 per 100 of population (a lot of people have more than one gun, so it is not 93% of Americans that own guns) and the number is 4 per 100 of population in the U.K., then you look at the stats for gun deaths in the 2 countries (10,000 v <100) you would think that the NRA and Joe Public might just spot the correlation. I think I know which country is more f****d.

 

i for one oppose guns and there use, the people whi say they need them to protect property are more than likely living out in the sticks and in hunting regions.

other than that most other gun owners come from the under privleged and its these people that are causing the problem i believe

The exact figures will differ slightly depending on which article you read, and which year they refer to, but the one I am reading says that in one year USA gun related deaths totalled more than 31,300. The same article says that in one year, gun related deaths in the UK totalled 42. Fourty bloody two.

Your Sandy Hook maniac killed half as many people in 6 minutes as is killed in the UK in one year.

In the USA, the number of people wiped out by guns equates to the population of a medium sized town. In the UK, the number of people wiped out by guns equates about the number of people you'd find on a rush hour bus.

The USA figure is 745 times the UK figure. Is the population of the USA 745 times that of the UK?. No it is approx 6 times that of the UK.


So no, whichever way you look at it, the rate of gun crime in the USA does not equate the the UK's rate when population differences are taken into account - not even close.

The guns used by black and Hispanic gangster types in the ghettos aren't legally owned weapons though and won't turn up in those figures.

It is true that outside of the dangerous inner cities areas the crime rate is actually lower than the UK so they do distort the crime figures somewhat.
