Results have been rubbish and something had to change, but my question is where do we go from here? Who is there to take over that we can afford, and who'd want to take on the job, especially if we lose at Peterborough as we will be then in a dire position and odds on to go down. Also, what finances are there for a new manager to play with in January?

Problem is, a lot of the players we have are not upto Championship standard, and as we've seen this season, you can try polishing a turd all you like, but you;ll never turn it into a diamond (Keith came close last season with Done and Wiseman, but the shine wore off!), so whoever comes in will inherit a team that needs changing, and worryingly I think the chances are that players will need to be sold in Jan if money is to be spent on the team.

Short term, I can't see Flitcroft staying on, as he turned down the chance at Bury to stay with Hill, and they were together at Rochdale. That probably opens the door for Ronnie Branson. I can then see him staying on until the end of the season with nothing to spend in the transfer window. In a way this could be ideal for the board as it is a kind of win win appointment for them. If we stay up, brilliant, and on the cheap, but if we go down a lot of fans will be calling for the managers head (which is a reason I think we might struggle to attract a good quality manager at this time), so Branson can be moved back to the Academy and another manager appointed to have all the close and pre-season to sort out his squad.

If this is what is going to happen then personally I'd have kept Hill in charge. If we got relegated then as soon as it was confirmed sack him then, be it March, April or May, then get a new man in who won't have the responsibilty of keeping us up and would have time to assess the squad and again have close and pre-season to sort his own squad out. If we'd stayed up then it would have been upto the board to decide what to do at the end of the season, but remember this time last season everyone thought Hill was the best manager for the job, until the midfield all disappeared for one reason or another after New Year.

Hopefully, things have been thought through by the board and there is someone of a decent standard with Championship experience lined up to replace Hill, but personally I have visions of this season ending up in relegation, and the next season being de ja vou from the period under Hodges in our first season in Div 1 with no money to spend on the squad, all decent players leaving at the end of the season and a season of struggle next year (unless a takeover happens).

Fingers crossed my vision is wrong.

He should have gone at the end of last season. Absolutely staggering that he was given any time this season. And even more incredible that he had such a wave of support behind him. Best news I've had in a while. But sadly too late to save us this season.

I agree with what you're saying, however Keith Hill clearly wanted out.

He was sat on his fat arse most of the game - patently obvious he didnt give a ****. What was funny was those whiter than white trainers he was wearing, made him look a bigger pillock than he is.

Fair enough, only heard his 'I'm the right man for the job speech', not been present to see his match day attitude, so if he did look like he wanted out, then I guess there was no other opition.

Interestingly, I honestly believe he was a missed foul on Steele and a dreadful penalty by Davies away from still being in charge.

I agree, but this is a results business, we ended up losing both, but if we'd have got an extra 4 points things wouldn't have been looking so bleak!

I don't get the impression that anyone at the club thinks about anything more than seven to ten days in the future.

The players we have may not all be championship, but they have at times showed a desire to win games. Usually in the last 20 minutes when were a goal behind.
If the players could adopt that attitude from kick off and stop with the tippy tappy, happy stat play, then we could start seeing some results.
As it stood, we were too predictable. The opposition knew our game and picked their moments from our inevertable mistakes. We never threatened from midfield and always allowed the other team to organise before pushing in the final third.
A change of thinking is well over due.

Thought we really went at them first 10 minutes today, but I agree in general with this for most of this season's home matches.

I would imagine Patrick Cryne has thought about it very deeply,I would be very surprised if a man like him has done it on the spur of the moment.

In that case should we expect an announcement in the next few days?

Come on fellows; this sacking has been a long time coming. Forget any crap about rebuilding next year in League 1; That is a pig of a league to get out of.
I honestly believe we have the squad already in place to keep us in the division; 1or 2 additions (CENTRE BACK.. CENTRE BACK...CENTRE BACK) can only help. I still can't believe Hill lasted this long. Easily the worst Manger we've had in the 36 years I've followed this club.

For me the question was what would be the bigger risk - to replace Keith or leave him in there? I actually believe relegation is more likely to happen now he's gone. The upheaval will damage us further and there is no outstanding candidate that I can think of, not who is going to come.

Bobby, Fozzie and Luke to step up in the short term. :)

More likely than a certainty; is that possible?

I think the board have left it too late, Hill should have been removed a few weeks ago while there was still a good chance of survival. Unfortunately I now think the damage is irrepairable and we'll be playing in league one next season.

Well we're Barnsley Fans so that degree of pesimism is expected!!! but I still think we've more chance of staying up with Keith sitting in his front room in Bolton than sitting in the dugout.

We were not certainties from where I'm standing. I really don't see what anyone can do with this motley bunch of players, they will be at even more of a loss than Keith. I really think Bob and Fozzie would do a better job keeping us up than some outsider chucking another bag of spanners in the works.

OK maybe the relegation certainties bit was a little on the flippant side but I stand by the rest of my post. I hope I'm wrong but I just can't see us getting out of this mess.

I'm with you Mr C. Who'd want the job knowing full well that if we went down the fans would be calling for them to be sacked.

Like I say, I now fear Branson will take over until the end of the season, when I think we willl be relegated.
