Now a load of people have got their wish and a new manager. If it's anyone but O'Driscoll or Flitcroft then the board have chalked f.ck on this long term break even strategy and they need to start pulling some money from somewhere. King's dead. Long live Branson.
Can't see O'Driscoll coming, not to a club like ours that's sacked so many managers over the last 10-12 years. According to all reports he's looking for a long term position and somewhere he can build.
He went to forest and they have sacked loads so that won't bother him! He was only there for 5 months so shouldn't be to worn out plus he's only just come out of management in this league so knows what's what and who's available for transfer as I'm sure he will have been planning for January with forest before he was sacked (wrongly in my opinion). He won't have as much money here and we may have to sell stones to give him any financial backing but I'd take him tomorrow and I believe he could keep us up but whoever we get will have a tough job on their hands.
And here's the problem. I still think we needed to give Keith another 18 months. Any new gaffer will look and think 'I've got a L1 budget and only 18 months to do something with it' The strategy is the right one, board need some bottle and continuity. That's why it'd be Flitcroft for me.
If that were true Then he wouldn't have joined Nottingham Forest, who have just appointed their fifth manager in a little over eighteen months. The new consortium at Forest are acting no differently to the previous owners when it comes to removing managers at a rapid rate.
How do you know the board aren't going to give a new man a better budget? We tried hills way it never worked so a re think at board level may happen and extra funds made available? There was money in the summer for Greer and Norwood so why not now?
Because that money came from his overall budget, not Crynes pocket. It's not Hills way, it's the clubs decision of breaking even while not increasing other revenue streams which meant it was the only logical way to manage us.
Re: If that were true He went there as a number 2. It's the radio Sheff presenters who know him quite well that have been saying he's looking for a long term project, I'd have thought that after interviewing him over the past 4/5 years they'd know him a bit better than us lot on here.
Re: If that were true The problem with any manager who has recently been sacked is that they have just had a big pay off. Consequently they don't need to rush in to another job and can pick and choose accordingly. We are not an attractive proposition. We have a revolving door policy for managers, a small budget, no money to spend in January, and are in the relegation places. Someone like Coyle or O'Driscoll's long term reputation hinges on their next job, why risk it on us?
Funny how we found money for 4 loan signings though when he was put under pressure to turn results around! I always believe hill had a bit of money but wanted to do it his way with lower league players! His choice and stubborn attitude have cost him his job and maybe our championship status. We needed a centre half and goal scorer in the summer and he signed neither.....
I reckon O'Driscoll will apply and will definitely come if offered the role. Aside from a very few hysterics on here most people including the outside world can see that Hill was given lots of time and patience. He'd have been sacked eight months ago at most other clubs.
I suggested those two As blokes who I'd like to see as manager, accepting I didn't know whether it'd be viable or not. I wish I'd not fvcking bothered now. I'll leave the managerial appointment suggestions to others who know more than me.
Money out of his own budget that he'd probably ear marked for Jan. Not found down the back of the couch.
If "Flicker" is owt like Keef then there's no point. Poor tactics, baffling selections and no urgency leaves us in the same position.
We were the same under Davey with no left footers then robins came in and balanced the team and we survived. A new manager needs to come and do similar and balance what we've got with new additions maybe a couple of forwards a centre half and a leader to sit in midfield! I was gutted leaving oakwell yesterday and had given up on stopping up but a new approach and a string of results could see us follow Ipswich up the table under Keith I couldn't see that happening.
Re: I suggested those two Wasn't having a go mate, they'd be my first choices too but I just think they need to be very protective over their careers and we are a managers graveyard. Except, bizarrely, for Paul Hart who kept getting Premier League jobs!
Sorry about that It's just that it's getting to the point when passing an opinion is simply not worth the effort. I haven't the foggiest idea how the club will be going through the process of selecting a new manager, whether they've an idea who'd they like to bring in, what the attitude will be of potential candidates to the position, whether compromises can be reached with regards to any differences. But at least I'm honest enough to realise this & admit I don't know. Others seem to try and pass their opinions off as statements of fact, speaking with an authority they simply don't possess. I'd like to see either O'Driscoll or Coyle installed as our new manager. However, there's no manager currently out of work who I'd have a problem with being appointed (as opposed to the likes of Blackwell or Di Canio). I think we'll go for a Championship experienced manager this time, rather than a younger man with potential from either lower down the leagues, or from the coaching staff from elsewhere. However, these are only opinions. I don't have insider information, nor can I claim my views are more worthy or credible than others.
