Thanks for posting that - so we know both Davies and Steele are likely to go in Jan if they can find someone to take them
didnt learn anything about the Manager really - but then I didnt expect to at this stage

So basically, we're in a total and utter mess both on and off the field. Brill.

If I quote Rowing "we need to re-align ourselves with the Barnsley fans".

So forget Flitcroft, Blackwell, Slade and maybe Megson (due to Owls link)?

It's an interesting one that. Don is obviously aware that the clubs relationship with the fans is not great at the moment. Hopefully they will listen to the fans opinion. It is impossible to please everyone but there does seem to be one name that a lot of people seem to quite like. I'm not suggesting the fans should pick the manager but I think it would be a disaster if the new boss is battling the supporters from day one.

Talks a good game, but as the old addage goes, actions speak louder than words. Rowing gets some hammer, but you can't really fault a word of what he said in either of those interviews. Standout comments for me, are that we have had apps from managers both in and out of jobs and that financially we are able to trade in January. 9 wins is the target, so it has to be someone with experience, who can motivate and is proven at this level.

Would Dave Bassett be such a bad shout?

I think the chance of BFC recruiting a lower league young manager is very slim at this juncture.
It is crying out for experience and leadership that can galvanize the players/fans and club overall.

I know quite a few people keep mentioning Sean O'Driscoll but I do not think he has the leadership qualities.

Still would go for Billy Davies as my first option..........then Phil Brown.

Also watch our for Neil Warnock 'cos he might be looking for a new job soon.

Didn't he say money was available for loans, the money we get from sales is what the new manger will get to play with for actual transfers.

Get real about Billy Davies. Not a cat in hell's chance of him even considering BFC.

He talks about connecting with the fans, but then charges £28 for the Wednesday and Blackburn games. Genius.

Hopefully they won't, I've interviewed dozens of people for various roles, but I have no experience of selecting a successful football manager. I'll leave it to people who have done it before. If they got it wrong last time, lets hope they learn from their mistakes.

My post further down says that I don't expect fans to pick the manager just that someone unpopular with the supporters would be counterproductive. Therefore they are worth considering.

Agreed. I wanted Hill. And Spackman. And was pretty pleased with Viv Anderson and Steve Parkin. Thought Wilson was a rubbish choice, and had no faith in Davey to keep us up.

I think the only manager I actually wanted in who was successful for us was Ritchie. On the other hand, I was absolutely right that Hendrie and Bodges were pretty awful appointments. Though it didn't take a genius to work that out about Hodges, but we didn't have a lot of choice to be fair.

Quite impressed with how open he was in that, maybe he's realised that he needs to be more honest with us and I think it's a good move. Hopefully that attitude will continue and I'm sure people will be more behind him and the rest of the staff at Oakwell whether the results get better or not.

To be fair to Hendrie, the expectation was for us to go straight back up which was always going to be a tough ask, he also signed Hignett who has to be considered one of the best ever signings given his goal scoring record and the fact that we made a big profit on him when he left for Blackburn.

    Billy Davies - Yes.
Phil Brown - Not if we have any sense.
Warnock - No thanks. He would definitely not unite the fans.

It didn't take a genius to work out that Hignett for 800k when we had plenty of cash knocking around was a decent bit of business. It also didn't take a genius to work out that Mike Sheron for 1.5 million was not. I would also argue that the profit we made by selling him was offset by the massive hole his absence left in the team.

However, in his defence Hendrie did have some very bad luck with injuries, in the shape of Hristov and Watson.

What makes you so confident of this?

He's been out of football since June 2011 and maybe wants back in?
