As we know he has been put in charge for the Posh game, I am hoping that the club are not going to look at him as a serious candidate for the job.... Personally I like Flicker, been to a few meetings and out of Hillcroft, Flicker seems to talk more sense and seem on the ball. But he has always been with Hill and he has played a massive part in what Hill has done here, so surely if he was offered the job we would be going down the same path. I want to see somebody who can motivate the players, show pride and passion on the touchline, someone like Coyle or Billy Davies, but they will be too expensive. I think SOD it the obvious appointment but with 25-30 applicants will be interesting to see who we get.. Lets get behind Flicker for the Posh game though UP THE REDS!!!!!! thoughts????...
Flicker should take Peterborough game then leave. in my opinion the club needs a new direction with regards to playing style and team selection. I would like to see Davies but can't see it either. A proven manager at this level would show us fans the board mean bussuiness and are looking to keep us up!
I think its only fair to judge him after a few games. If he does well he deserves his chance, after all he might have different ideas about the players / tactics than Keith and he was always the one on the touch line shouting and trying to motivate. Promoted number two's do sometimes work out.
Yep Mario, I agree. At the end of the day, whoever takes over has got a massive task getting us out of the mess that we're in. Flicker keeping us up is no more unlikely than Davey keeping us up with no managerial experience - yet he did it.
Completely agree Selby... Need a new direction, like how Keith Hill tried to play football but sometimes it was far too tippy tappy. We need to sometimes play the long ball mix it up a little. The amount of times we had a promising free kick and passed it 4 yards to Wiseman i was pulling my hair out. Like SOD style of play but is it too similar to Keiths?
Correct Mario, don't judge Flicker by Hills phylosophy. He was always urging players on, and he might be a surprise. We on her cannot judge a guy when we are not behind the scenes and do know nothing about his ability.
It needs the complete opposite, continuity to build on the foundations they've put in. A new style puts us back another 18 months.
A style of play that we know can work - possession, passing. Lost it's way over past couple of months but we were getting there. If Megson or similar come in A whole new style, massive overhaul of players etc. I don't think we need it.
We need to get the ball forward quicker, this possession stuff wasn't working, 10 minutes messing about with the back 4 and defensive midfielders, then lose it or give to Steele to boot long.
It wasn't but it was at the start of the year and is a start. We bring in a long ball merchant we start again. Again.
Then let Flicker fine tune it and put his ideas of what is missing inti practice. He is up to speed on where we are going wrong and I think he would be the best man to get players together
I don't mind starting again, play in the opposition half, and press them. Play with wingers and get balls into the box.
I would say give Flicker a chance tomorrow, but if he picks Saturdays 3 controversial starters again,I wouldn't see much point in continuing with him after that.
But then again the cycle starts again. The clubs we talk about that have overtaken us have had stability and a strategy - Millwall, Palace, Swansea. We need someone who will pick up on Hills work and continue it, not scrap it completely.
Flicker is not the right man, but neither is he an idiot. He knows he has to pacify the fans tomorrow. Wiseman, McNulty & Done will be dropped. Hassell will start. Nailed on.
