I really do not understand how Mellon can offer anything tomorrow. He will have never met our players before, never seen us train before, never watched a Barnsley game before (unless he's got sky in which case he's seen 2 very different teams and nothing more) and will basically know pretty much nothing about our sides strengths and weaknesses other than what flitcroft tells him. With that in mind what exactly is the point? Don keeps talking about one game, it isn't a caretakers appointment it is someone to oversee the team for one game, one game with no preparation from mellon. I thought we were skint so where has the money come from to set him on for two days? Why not just let branson or one of our (pretty large) team of coaching staff assist for 90 minutes? I just don't understand it at all UNLESS it is intended as a longer term appointment and if that is the case then they want shooting.
Not only that but in this case Supertyke is pretty much spot on It doesnt make sense unless there is a serious consideration of emplying Mellon in some role
Maybe he's a good motivator. Many businesses employ motivational speakers and the people who do this job very rarely know the people they're talking to. While Flitcroft is taking care of the tactics, formation and personnel, t'old Micky Mellon could be helping to motivate them. The team certainly need a bit of that if the second half on Saturday is owt to go by. Sounds like they're away for the night, so maybe someone new on board will give everyone a lift. Or maybe Flitcrof just wants someone at his side, to bounce ideas off and give a bit of moral support. I think I'd be right in saying every manager in the premier and football league has a number two, so to deny Flitcroft one, even if it's just for one game, would be very churlish. If I was managing a group of people for the first time I'd feel a lot better if I had a mate on side. I don't see any harm in it to be honest.
