My business partner bought me a 3kg box of proper midget gems... eating them now

Can't make my mind up if I prefer midgets, sports mixtures or liquorice tablets best....

Much more consumer research needed... someone's got to do it !

Love them, proper hard midget gems with proper black ones. I also love poor bens, liquorice tablets and butterscotch tablets.

when lion sold the rights for the midget gems to Maynards they wouldnt allow them to use the black liquorice ones, that why everyone says these arnt what they used to be.

I know they are,but if you buy the maynards brand they dont have the liquorice ones in,lion own the rights to it,they didnt allow maynards to produce it when they sold the rights to them. Also as far as I know lion cant sell midget gems other than in the bulk boxes..Something a sweet rep told me a few years ago when I first started up in business.

You may well be right Dek, ironically the proper Lion ones are distributed by a company called Tangerine Confectionery, who are based in Poole. Only a couple of hundred yards from where my old business was based. It's as though they are following me..... better eat some more!

Don't like liquorice so I give all the black ones away when I have midget gems - proper ones that is.

For that reason I prefer Maynards and other imposters. Love wine gums, fruit gums, all fruity, chewy stuff and especially sour ones.

I'd take them over any chocolate all day. Our lass reckons I'm barmy, but she did buy me a jar of all sorts of mixed sweets for Xmas. My mum wrapped me up some wham bars!

I got a Cadburys selection box and it didn't even have a curly wurly or chomp in it. Load of crap.
