He was shopping for shirts in Debenhams at Meadowhall. I said "There's a job going at Oakwell, you know". He replied "So I've heard". Asked him if he was interested and he said "I couldn't possibly comment". Top bloke though.
Legend = YES Motivator = YES Leader = YES Low cost = YES Knows "BFC fabric" = YES Management experience = NO (and maybe this is single most important factor at the moment?)
Can I add into this that Chris Powell at Charlton would tick all the boxes above, but the difference being Charlton gave the guy a chance in Management and he's done well. Redders could be good for BFC..........maybe he just needs the chnace?
Clearly Redders had a very strong affinity at BFC as he played 292 out of 851 games for REDS. Easily the highest appearance tally in his career. Cracking player/leader........and must add that when I went to see him at the Lamproom Theatre, he projected himself as a very genuine, motivated guy and openly admitted he would love to manage BFC and would always "put a team out to win". Now we aint seen that for a while 'av we?
Id love redders to be involved somehow, as manager I'm not sure. But I'd rather him and/or Darren Moore than some of the names banded about....
Would be a bad decision. I see nothing to suggest he would win half of our remaining games, which we probably need to do now to stay up. Obviously I hope i'm horribly wrong, but this isn't the time for sentiment - which is exactly what this appointment would be about.
Powell took over in an easier league with one of the best budgets in that league. Redfearn would be taking over a rock bottom club in a much tougher league, with one of the smallest budgets in that league. There lies the difference.
Dreamboy3000........Fair point.......but there is similarity with the players/clubs. I don't think now is a good time for BFC and Redfearn but I hope one day we do arrange this "marriage".
