Given time i still think Hill and Flicker would have been the best thing to happen to Barnsley for decades But they had a string of bad luck coupled with a mountain of injuries..........and consequently when things started to go wrong they showed inexperience by not mending the principle area that needed mending i.e. the central defence. So obviously Flicker is not the man for the main job. Although i still feel that it would be highly beneficial if we could retain him as a coach. So we need someone who can maintain the fight that is still in the players......and then lift the areas of the team that are lacking. Which firstly is the central defence followed soon after by the strike force. Looking at the candidates for the job, that is to say the managers that have been mentioned on here..........does anyone actually believe that O'Dismal will set the WELL on FIRE and lift the team away from relegation ??? In my view the spirit that Hill and Flicker installed at the club would soon disappear if O'Dreary was talking to the players in the changing room. My advice to players if O'Dismal got the job would be to take sleeping bags with them to any team talk. We need an experienced manager that is able to maitain the fire in the team while also being good enough to bring central defenders and strikers in during the transfer window that will hit the ground running.
http://www.peterborough.vitalfootball.co.uk/stats.asp?a=304151 66% posession for p'boro, same amount of chances on and off target, sorry but dont get the part where you say ...dominate
Agree wholeheartedly, having thought about it seriously, i still think best man for the job is Mr B Davies
O`Driscoll--- Billy Sharp, Jason Shackell, just two players that would fit the bill as to what you want.
You talk about fire and getting the players going but there are other ways of managing the situation. It's nice to see that kind of passion and commitment but sometimes it leads to players running round like headless chickens and conceding soft goals. O'driscol will bring a more measured approach probably similar to hill but hopefully he's got a bit more experience at this level and better contacts for players that have played a better level than league 1 or 2! I'm torn on what's the best way to go about the situation because both ways have good and bad points.......whoever comes in needs full support from the terraces right through to the tea lady because we will only beat the drop if we stick together and get behind them!
I'd be interested to see second half stats - it was the second half we dominated (that was the word Darren Ferguson used and I saw no reason to disagree with him). I was surprised to see those possession stats 'cos that didn't really tally with my impression of the game. Rose-tinted (or rosé-clouded) spectacles on my part, perhaps.
Billy Davies is my no. 1 choice. Think the fact that Blackburn have delayed their new manager until end of transfer window (crazy) helps BFC have a wider choice.
im perplexedabout the possesion stas actually , even the first half was 50/50 in my mind and we had all the ball second half...
Just how many changing rooms haveu bn ib when sod has bn givingthe team talk? How do u know how he commands the room? You dont do what hes done without the respect of the players.
There's no way those stats are correct. It is most likely an error, and should be the opposite, namely Barnsley 66% Posh 34%. The 2nd half was almost one way movement, towards their goal.
Yep...........and still sticking by that ................and if you ask PC and THE DON the same question then I think they would say the same Circumstances has killed the best management team we have had at the WELL in my lifetime .....................a bit more money, a few less injuries, a bit more luck If I was the Blackburn Chairman I would snap them up
Unfortunately future analysis of Hills tenure will only come to one conclusion.....a monumental failure. I'm still at a loss as to why Flitcroft is still at the club, Branson could have stood in whilst we found a permanent replacement, in my opinion Hills failure is Flitcrofts failure the sooner we get shut the better, having Flitcroft around can only be a negative for any future manager
So, we should steer clear of SOD or that type of manager, because - according to the OP - his team-talks would be boring. We need to maintain the fire that Keith brought to it in the dressing room, according to the OP. Is this the same Keith Hill/David Flitcroft that are SOOOO good at team-talks that we regularly lost games in the second half, after their team-talks? The same blokes that couldn't get any matchday squad to reverse a deficit in a league game, in EIGHTEEN MONTHS and 72 games??? Aye, reight motivators weren't they?
