I agree with that, I've being saying something similar for a while. i just feel relegation may not be the worst thing for the club this season. We'll be able to compete in league 1 financially and if we're there or thereabouts all season, it should help bring some of the fans back, which should be sustained if we get promoted again.

It's certainly a bold headline from The Star

Seeing as their article simply says he's been offered the job, not that he's accepted it. Personally, I hope it proves to be true, although I accept a number of people don't want him. Having said that, no appointment will be met with universal approval amongst the fanbase.

Not my first choice to be honest, as I think we need a vocal and strong leader, but reading this article fills me with more optimism.

I still think that BFC will try and tempt a Redefearn/Taggart type ex-favourite to work alongside the new manager, possibly O'Driscoll.

Our crowds would be down to the 5k mark in L1 with very few if any large away followings so competing financially is not as much of a given as you'd think.

I agree with chef. SOD is the right DNA for what we are trying to play. He can talk Indonesian or in sign language if he gets us out of bottom. Also at the wrath of some, which I appreciate their view, I would keep continuity with Flicker as No 2
Lets get Burnley stuffed and then start by showing Warnock and Leeds how football should be played

Yeah I mean why would we want an experienced championship manager who might end up being long term when we could stick to inexperienced championship managers getting sacked on a regular basis like with every manager we've had at this level since returning to it.

Relegation would be terrible. The fans we sustained from winning regularly for a year in league one wouldn't make up the four million plus we'd have lost from revenue.

You can't please everyone all the time but I think many would agree he's the best person we could appoint. His sacking at Forest was pathetic, he should still be there so in a way it's a bit nicking a manager from a higher profile club.

He's only been out of work a few weeks so he won't have any cobwebs to blow off and should find his feet a lot quicker than someone who has been pottering about not doing a lot for the last 12-18 months.

I just hope he's got the right contacts and relationships in the game to get a few players in on loan at the very least. At this moment in time, he's going to need a win percentage of close to 50% until the end of the season if we are going to stay up but with just a few decent players in the right areas of the team we could go on a decent run.

Or why should anyone be allowed to have a different view from you, you mean.

I'm totally happy with my position and know more about O'Driscoll than most on here, having lived in Doncaster through most of his tenure at DRFC, which saw long dismal runs and fan numbers dwindle.

Davies would be my choice by the way, who is superior in every one of the characteristics you attribute to O'Driscoll and not inexperienced at all. His pay in his last job was similar to O'Driscoll's (same club).

O'Driscoll has only had two jobs at this level and one of them was for only a few months. He has been sacked from both. He does not "connect with the fans".

I will continue to support BFC if he's appointed and hope that I am wrong but I won't be renewing the season ticket, going to 90% of the away games and being one of the handful at Brighton etc

Oh and by the way the best five managers in my years of watching the Reds were:-

    Danny Wilson
    Allan Clarke
    Norman Hunter
    Bobby Collins
    Eric Winstanley

They had a collective zero years second tier management experience before managing us there.

Guesswork if you ask me. Wernt King Keef on a rolling contract...... So how can he have 6 months left.......

And SOD on our shortlist of 4 - Even the Rowing said on Dee Dar its a shortlist of 5........

I've stated befroe that O'Driscoll is NOT my first choice.

Agree with you Exile that he does not show great leadership skill, his record is not that great and I am not sure he would re-unite the REDS fans.

I think Billy Davies is a better option........but at the end of the day it is just my opinion and I have zero part to play in the ultimate decision.

If Luton beat Wolves today then this saga could take a different turn...........

How can Davies be a better option? Regardless of anyone's views on him, and the fact that some people would have liked us to go for him, I've not seen a single bit of information to suggest he had any interest in the role, so it looks like he's not a candidate (presumably due to a lack of desire on his part).

The same applies to my second choice behind SOD, Owen Coyle too, so this isn't simply a dig at the Davies supporters. Certain names on the wishlist don't look like they were ever serious candidates for the role, and Davies is among them.

I'm surprised O'Driscoll would be interested. Thought he'd be monitoring the situation at Wolves and Wednesday.

Bloody Star, leads with "S O'D to be next boss".... Headlines with "Poised to be..." Opens with "could be...." and goes on to state "might be in a position this weekend to mull over personal terms...."

    Wazerks.

All I'm saying is that, given managers that are out there, Davies has managed clubs like Preston similar to ours and gives the best chance of staying up, in my view.

The simple fact is that unless the club release the names on the long and shortlists, which is unlikely, we won't know who is or was interested. I don't know one way or the other if Davies has expressed an interest or not, or been asked and said no.

There are also conflicting messages re: O'Driscoll's desire to come if you read everything on these pages over the last couple of days, so I suspect Brianpotter is nearest the mark in reality.

Not being defeatist, just realistic and slightly more long term. Personal view is that we'll struggle to stay up now, whoever comes in. I know we have to scrap to the last point. But we also have to consider our strategy for getting out of League 1. I suspect that will be factored into whoever gets the job.

I'm just glad i'm not having to make the decision.
