A true fan only has the one team to support throughout his/her life. Through ups and downs we are supposed to stand as one and follow our club through thick and thin. We will all outlast any player, manager, board of directors and at this minute in time, them lads out on that football field today need our vocal backing. It doesn't matter who the next manager is gonna be, whether you think the club is being run right or not. The fact is, is that this club is OUR CLUB who we bleed and breath for. I couldn't bear not going today for some reason whether it be stupid or not. Its my club and I wanna give my support and show that I am behind the club 100%. Decisions I may not agree with will never stop me from going. I stand with the man at the side of me who I may have never seen in my life but we will always have one thing in common and that bond is Barnsley FC. This club is on its arse at the minute and the one thing that is so desperately needed at this minute in time is its supporters. Put all your negative thoughts to the back of your mind from now and from now on whoever may be in charge, whoever he brings in and whoever runs the club, get behind them because a club without its fans support, is a doomed club. We have a fighting chance and as a fan, I don't wanna go down without a fight and if we show our support, the players, management and staff won't either. A few will say that its down to the players to generate the atmosphere at Oakwell. Fair point, but them players also need our help from time to time and now more than ever. I feel daft for posting this but if I can just persuade one person to change their mind today then this post will have worked. It's Leeds next Saturday and I hope that you all can join together and find it within yourselves to have a change of heart and give your club another chance. UUUUUUUUUU RRRRRREEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDSSSSS!!!!!!!
I have a ST so go to all league games but this cup game just doesn't excite me enough to do the 100 mile round trip and spend £25 on the day (still a full month til pay day and after xmas). I rarely go to 3rd round games, I don't go to the league cup games either.
If season ticket holders can't be motivated to go to the match then, that IMHO, gives a true feeling of the clubs fan base. As a non-season ticket holder for the last 3 or 4 seasons I think it will give the "smug true fans" a feeling of what it is like for the rest of us week in week out.
I am just not that interested in the cups. I would obviously go to later round games or if we draw a big club, so that probably makes me the devil or sumert.
You're not the devil. You're only missing a football game. Everyone has the right to do whatever they want (within reason). I really don't think the point of this post was to cast aspersions on anyone or claim the moral high ground. It was just written in the hope of persuading anyone who was undecided in to going to the game. Honourable intentions in my opinion.
What Jay said is right. Not having a go or saying i am a better fan. Just a rallying call to hopefully get people to think differently. We all need to be as one as supporters, not at each others throat. Saw two guys behind me in ponty vs wednesday having a go at each other due to difference of opinion. Was threatening to get nasty until others got involved. Just think at times like this when we are looking down the barrell of a gun that we need to support our team through the bad times. Like i say, better to go down with a fight than without one.
Tongue in cheek Jay. The whole 'best/true fan' thing does my head in, I try not to get involved. I wasn't judging the OP, just giving his opinion, to which I gave mine. Just clearing that up as it has obviously come across like that.
ST holder and not going, as likes been said, its not an exciting tie. I don't expect us to win and having been to all home games so far this season, I'm know i'm not going to be entertained. Apart from that, got to take young un to a football party at 3pm and I've heard the bar there serves decent beer.
I'm not going today. I do not need to use any reasons why. It's just my choice. And just because it's the first home game that I've missed that I have had to pay for in years, does that not make me a true fan? If so then so be it. I'm not a real fan then. Season ticket holder for 15 years?? With the birth of my 2nd child due at the end of March, my money will probably be taken up that way to give my children the life and love they deserve and so I might not renew my season ticket next season. Does that still not make a true fan? After losing my mum last year, and a few close family friends, it has made me realise that family is the most important thing in my life, not football
ST holder for 19 years. I see today as a 'day off' from the pain and misery i've been suffering recently. I'm also on a detox in Jan, and need to resist beer. Just donated my £15 ticket money to a Children with AIDS foundation. 30 kids die from AIDS every hour, in sub-Saharan Africa. My 'true fan' status is still in tact.
Doddy, you have totally took the post in the wrong manner. I'd like to know where I have made it sound as though I am having a go at people. Its a post to hopefully make people change their mind about not going today. A rallying call. Dont read into it as though I'm having a go as I've explained that lower down this thread. Please read the thread mate.
I give up. Read people, Read "A True fan only supports one team in his/her life" so unless u support wednesday on the side u r all true fans. People taking this outta context. I apologise
That's the problem though. Management see us as fans so expect we will put up with anything. But while we are fans we are still customers so just like going in a shop and buying something you want value for money. If today had been free for season ticket holders I probably still wouldn't have gone. Reasons for not going include.... 1) No home win for over four months. 2) Lack of goals we score. 3) Lack of clean sheets we keep. 4) Bottom of the league. 5) Managerless. 6) Playing a team from our league isn't a glamour tie for me. 7) Unreserved seating. 8) Lack of a cup run over the recent years in both cup competitions apart from the one off semi final run. 9) Our best two defenders Sir Bobby and Foster on the bench. 10) The lack of atmosphere. It's bad enough for a league match but with 5k if we are lucky there today our 23,000 ground really will sound like a libary.
too long, didn't read. ST holder who'd rather spend the 30 quid i've saved on some beer and grub for the family, enjoy sitting in cold watching burnley. i'll be back to being a fair weather fan when leeds visit next satdy.
