If this is true, We have to give him time, I think staying up is a lost cause, so he is for the longer term, so we have to get behind him and give him some slack.
I think if we applied this view to whoever comes in we'd maximise the chances of the new man being successful. The true task is getting us promoted from League One and the appointment needs to have that as the long-term goal. Treat avoiding relegation this season as a massive bonus if it happens (in which case the new man could and should be viewed as a miracle worker!)
I wanted Megson, and tbh, I didn't have SOD in my top 4 of potential candidates. I wouldn't be against his appointment however. I quite like the bloke and appreciate the modicum of success he's had in the lower leagues. It's just part of me that thinks he's too similar to what we keep on appointing. But if he gets it, he gets my support.
Times have changed though since those five. We have it much harder these days trying to compete with our finances at this level. Ritchie couldn't be helped as he was our manager to this level. But think of the money wasted bringing in "cheap options" like Davey, Bobins and Keef but having to pay them all off and their coaching staff as well and compo to Rochdale. Hopefully if SOD comes in with his championship experience we won't have to swap the manager so quick as he will do a good job.
Could be worse Not my first choice but definitely not my last - and would be OK with his appointment - I dont think he would be able to keep us up but is probably a good candidate to get us challenging again next season As we dont really know who is on the short list its hard to know if he is the best availlable of seriously interested managers.
Tbf its probably true of Dony they're not noted for flocking to see their team. He wouldn't say that about us cos the history and circumstances would prove otherwise. He,s not my first choice but I wouldn't be dissapointed if he was chosen and would get my full support from the stands. However the immediate aim is to retain our championship status I'll discuss div 1 if we are mathematically down but we must stick with whoever is in charge to restore us where we belong which is fighting for premiere league football in the championship.
I hope we get O'Driscoll - wrongly dismissed at Forest and did a great job with Donny. I feel what happened at Doncaster after he left is an indicator of their decision making. Good fit for Barnsley and might even get me back through the turnstile. Outstanding candidate amongst the others - experience of this league and plays good football. I couldn't care less what he sounds like - after hearing Hill's pontifications I will be quite happy with a quiet man that gets the job done and let the football do the talking.
I know wolves main reporter from uni - just messaged him to see if he's heard anything about SOD being linked with wolves
I can't wait to come back on here in four months if he gets appointed. Why the **** do we have all the possession but only have 3 shots on target? No plan B, we fall behind and we haven't a clue how to change it Tip tappy football and we don't hurt anyone We're brilliant up to the last third Sound familiar?
