If I may make a SuperTyke-esque observation, I noticed during that lttle contretemps that the ref gestured towards his pocket as if to threaten a card if Dawson didn't back off. I didn't think that refs were supposed to do that - wasn't this one of the edicts from on high at some point? Personally I think it's a reasonable sanction in circumstances like that, I'm just interested that's all.

Yes, that puzzled me mate. The Ref handled it well, especially with the choice language and refusal to back off. If anything he was jeopardising that decision, we actually need a different captain to keep a lid on Dawson and channel his undoubted qualities in the best interests of the team.

If the right manager can work with him and cool his boots a bit, possibly captain one day. Right now we need a sensible head, especially with a relegation scrap on our hands. If Daws got a 3 match ban, that could finish us.
