...speaks volumes about the current state of affairs.

Fans are like 'f##k him - I wanted Ruud Gullit anyway' - head slap.

Gary Megson? Kevin Blackwell? (and worse still we have fans that wouldn't have either of those!)

You're having a laugh. About as much chance of us signing Rio Ferdinand for his twilight years, and getting a Premier League striker to come in for peanuts.

Brace yourself for either a) Flicker or b) someone you'll have google to find out about.

We've been in the **** for months and we have no plan A. Plan B is not something our 'board' have ever heard about. Let's be straight, this is a relegation season and the club is doing laps round the toilet bowl.

Which fans have said any of that?

The Ruud Gullit thing is a bit of sarcasm, but you don't have look far for a thread where people ouldn't ave Megon or Blackwell.

Frankly our board has played a blinder again. Very clear that SOD was our first choice and we got turned down. Who wants to be our second choice? Gary Megson or Kevin Blackwell - aye alreight.

Our board are toss. Everyone knows that. Can you imagine sitting down with the Don and leaving inspired and excited by the potential of the club?

Seriously I think people on here would blame The board if they ran out of bog roll in their own toilet.

No, just for errors relating the club for which they are accountable for.

What i don't get is why there has to be an official statement. The discussion is between the club and SOD and if he declines to go further then with due respect we move on. Surely this is something we shouldn't 'wash in public'. I'm not sure what the statement gains us other than any other prospects looking publicly as second best, ahhh well on to Plan C.

i'm actually starting to feel some sympathy for 'the board' now. pretty much everything they do is criticised. we're constantly asking for communication and closer ties with the fans. they release a statement to do just that, and they get criticised for going public. whatever they do, they're gonna get slated.

i'm glad i'm not in the hot seat, that's for sure

People overwhelmingly wanted rid of Hill - he went. The club had a list of managers they wanted and the seeming number 1 target decided he didn't want the job. Quite why this is the clubs fault i have no idea.

It's simple, put the BBS in charge and we'd not lose players for poor transfer fees, we'd get the best manager and be able to attract 15,000+ crowds. Everyone's a ****ing expert on here and frankly it's getting mighty boring reading about how it should be done.

I think the point the OP was making was that he sees SOD turning us down after listening to the club's plans as a reflection on the path the club has been and is heading down.

Well said, they're trying their best under difficult circumstances.

I wouldn't put up with half the **** they put up with.

    Thankless task!

Well if you sack a manager and want him sacked then you have to play the cards as they are dealt.

Tomfun, Yeah your right, the board do have a hard job. But i cant help thinking some of the criticism is drawn from their own actions. Im not cirticising as such here, but asking what it serves to achieve. I understand these type of decisions and also marketing and im unsure what message they are trying to offer. Is it that they tried but failed? That the fans fav isnt interested? That the board have achieved great success to date? Signal to reconnect? Im unclear to be honest. The main point i read from this rightly or wrongly is that an available manager seriously discussed our short and long term plans, not terms and felt the job wasnt for him.

What you're forgetting is that they are a large part of the reason that circumstances are so difficult. Not the whole reason, but a major part of it.

a good manager would be up for a fight to prove he is a good manager,if u have million to spend u can buy quality players if u have not u have to work with want u have. Keith was nearly there but he would not blame himself for the faults in the team on all he did bring in some good player. we need someone who as balls and big ones at that.
