Doing a fantastic job at Inverness, with possibly a worser budget than ours.

Not convinced over his English league record but he may have learned some valuable lessons in Scotland.

Will also have many contacts in the game, and should get the fans back on our side.

One of my favourite images in football is the one of Butcher and the bloodied bandage.

To be honest, we have no chance of landing Butcher. We can dream.

Thistle aside, his record isn't great. I have to say, I wouldn't be over the moon with this at all. He'll be another who won't know what's required at Championship level. You've only got to look at Jimbo... gets in the TEAM OF THE YEAR in the SPL, moved to Barnsley and was nowhere near what was required at Championship level in his first season. I do hope it doesn't take Butcher as long to adapt.

Bit worried tbh but if it's all we can afford (who we can tempt) then he'll need our full backing. U Redz!

There is no point in comparing the SPL to the championship because there is a massive gulf between the pressure he is under at ICT and the pressure he'd be under here. Aside from a few games a season the SPL is utter dross.

He did a good job at Motherwell as well, and has the experience of coaching in three different countries. Wasn't he once also part of the England coaching setup?

Experienced head, determined, and will quickly go about trying to sort our defence out. Plus, to the casual football fan Terry Butcher is quite a big name.

Comes across well whenever he's on Five Live, and you can see through comments in the press he won't stand for any messing about.

Would be a great appointment for me, but then I said the same about Spackman!

I have to say if it's Terry butcher I'd be over moon. I agree is English record isn't that good but is last English team was 5/6 years ago since thn he will have gained more experience and may have learnt alot. If it is butcher lets has fans of this football club rally together support butcher if it is him or whoever the new manager is and let's get out of this situation up the reds!

But will he give up a European campaign with Cally Thistle? To take them to second in Scotland is an amazing achievement even with the demise of Rangers and Hearts.

If he can stop our main goal leakage, set pieces that is - then we'll be okay as our other primary source has all but signed for Blackpool.

Well he has stated that he does want to return to England to manage, let's just hope the board makes a good case. All we can do is wait and fingers crossed

    Press Statement
    PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT

Inverness Caledonian Thistle today confirmed that they have given Barnsley FC permission to speak to Manager Terry Butcher regarding the vacancy at Barnsley.

Chairman Kenny Cameron commented “We have given Barnsley FC permission to speak to Terry. Given our current position in the SPL and the fact we have a Cup Semi Final on the horizon it is inevitable that if any Managerial positions that come up our management team will no doubt be on the radar.

We will be doing everything possible to ensure that Terry remains with the club and finishes what has been an incredible journey to date for us all."

They are in the semi finals of the cup but l'd be very surprised if they are still in 2nd position come May.

It is more encouraging than you think. The latest statement says we have been given permission by ICT to talk to him, which would seem to remove one barrier - that the club would block any move. Looking hopeful. Good choice from the options available and he will still want to prove himself in England.

    1) Works to an 800k a year budget so used to working with hands tied.
    2) Second in the SPL.
    3) On course for the Europa League.
    4) Highly thought of throughout the game.
    5) Great centre half in his day so good chance he'd sort out defence out.
    6) Only lost one more game than Celtic this season.

    He'd do for me.

To be honest if Terry Butcher takes the Barnsley job at the moment he must have had a bang on the head.

Like I said in another thread, big mates with Ronnie Glavin did some summer camp coaching together so wonder if Ronnie could be part of the setup. Not in the best of health but may fulfill a role as scout?
