It seems like the board and the fans are in sync. Both want Terry Butcher. So why is everyone so pissed off?

It's Monday in the second week of January. The most depressing week of the year apparently, with statistically the highest suicide rate. We are bottom of the league and in management limbo.

I'm off to buy my first ever Strat tomorrow, so I am fairly upbeat though I do have a heavy cold.

I dont understand why everybody is apparently voting for him either. He never came across as number 1 choice on here and various other Tyke boards and phone ins.

He wasnt first choice, that was definitely SOD by a long way. he was probably the boards also.

But with sod out of the running, Butcher is obviously now the first choice among the fans on this bulletinboard.

We have no idea if hes now the boards first choice or if they are just covering every option. But like Jay says at least they seem to be taking notice of the fans

They took notice of us idiots when they appointed Spackman. I really don't envy the Don having to make this decision as I just don't think there is a clear favourite candidate.

Wouldn't say the fans are in sync, only 30% for Butcher...........even Cameron got 36% at the last election and not many see him as endorsed by the people.

I'm definitely not pissed off. I would never have thought of Butcher when Hill was sacked, but then, I didn't think of a lot of managers. I just thought of the ovbious ones because I'm a bit simple like that. But now he has been brought up I'm more than happy with him.

I'm not pissed off either. He wasn't my first choice - but then I didn't really give it much thought until SoD was heavily linked.

I've kind of reached a point where I'll happily take whoever we're given - with one or two notable exceptions - as we can't be much worse off than we were under Hill. If the new guy takes us down it's pretty much expected. If he has us play crap football it's not the end of the world - we may as well play crap football given all we've done recently is knock the ball about with little or no purpose.

The club needs a massive overhaul and as long as the new manager is a part of that (ie gets involved in the community stuff and tries to make use of the academy set up) then I'll be reasonably happy with him doing little more than steadying the ship for a while.

I only dip in and out of the board but the general impression I get is that there always seem to be someone pissed off on here the majority of the time: eg, it's too dark at night, the water is too wet et al - the kind of comments that make you wonder if the enlightenment really happened. The fact that it seems that the board and the fans are in unison concerns me for some bizarre reason - are the board being too populist for sake of an easy ride? Having said that, I don't think there is a stand out candidate for the job and - like a few others - I'm more concerned that who doesn't get the job rather than who does (aka Blackwell).

For what it's worth Terry Butcher's record in English football concerns me. What concerns me further is that he was a Scotland coach during George Burley's ill conceived reign. In his defence, you must admire his passion for football and coaching - I can't think of many succesful players who after being sacked a few times have continued to manage in an unfashionable league and eventually made a success of it. However, what do I know about appointing a football manager and at least he's not Blackwell.

    I'm happy

Think it's more or less the best of what's available. Think the Don is making the right noises about it being important how Butcher has unified the community in Inverness. And he's not Keith Hill.

And I'm off on holiday for two weeks on Saturday.

I think some people are voting for what they think is likely to happen.

I am MORE happy with Terry Butcher than I would have been with SO'D.

Butcher is a leader and commands immediate respect.............SO'D seems too much of a nice/quiet guy.

    Let's see what unfolds.........

I think I am the same thoug either would do - neither my first choice but that was Coyle who probably wasnt realistic - second choice Rosler but he also seems to be out of the running but of the remaining Butcher is definitely one of the better candidates - I would be perfectly satisfied with him

    I don't want Terry Butcher

    I want Owen Coyle.

    Probably won't get him though.

Well my first choice would be Blackwell if we couldn't get him then I'd go for some young untried old boy legends someone like Morgan with deon burton as his assistant......what?
