1577 v Wrexham, 10th May 1966. Won 3-0 with goals from Martin Ferguson (2) and Bob Earnshaw. Ferguson's gone up in the world then? Now scouting for his big brother at Man U. I also had a look for lowest attendances for away games and have got 894 for the amazing game at Workington, 7th April 1976, which we won 7-1 with John Peachey scoring a hat-trick and Peter Price two under Jim Iley. I bet you can't find that on you-tube!!

I don't think the original poster thinks the Burnley attendance was that bad now....

I was at that Workington game

Our other scorers that night were John Saunders and Bob Doyle with a penalty. Workington had a huge advertisement painted on the roof of some covered terracing, similar to ours with John Smiths over the paddock. Theirs was for a local ice cream company, proudly displaying the slogan 'We Take Some Licking'! It seemed to take bloody hours to get there and back from the game!

And it was a poor game, livened up only by Gordon Owen flattening Nigel Winterburn with a sweet headbutt. They both tried to carry it on in the tunnel after they'd been sent off too.

When did we beat Portsmouth 4-0 at home in the league (Agnew scored)? 1990-ish? I remember being in a crowd of just over 4,000 then.

There was a 3-1 home defeat to Southend where Ricky Otto scored at least two, maybe a hat-trick at the ponty end in the first half. One of the worst home games I ever remember, along with the 3-1 home defeat by Plymouth when Dwight Marshall got a first half hat-trick. I was actually convinced we were going down after that match.

Total guess, but I'd imagine the Anglo-Italian cup matches will be in the frame (the prelim round before anyone played Italian teams). I seem to recall we were in a group with Middlesbrough and Grimsby and that we took 16 fans to Boro.

Look at the average attendances after the war!

We need to kill some Nazis, that'll get people flooding back to Oakwell.
