    My Grandfather

Came from County Clare, so I may have some relatives out on the West coast I don't know about.

I can trace back to Sligo before Ireland modernised.

I have a lot of mates up there, some moved up from round here though one guy, Doug Wright. who played for t'brig, sadly passed away in his 50's. He loved the place having moved hos reluctant family to Strathpeffer.

I was a nats chuff from staying and the next time I crest the A9 to look down on the Kessock bridge I'll have as broad a smile as possible.

My sister researched our family tree

And integrated it with a holiday out there. Unfortunately, once she got as far back as the potato famine, the remaining records of the area my Grandfather lived in meant her research ground to a halt.

Depends which county depends on the quality of the records.

Me too. I take the A82 from there and head off for Drumnadrochit and Lewiston. We usually hire a cottage on the South facing mountain side overlooking Loch Ness, just to the West side of Urquart Castle. Beautiful, tranquil, perfect.

    You're probably right

But she's not enjoyed a holiday as much as that one.

Midges like chinooks! I once went to Glen Affric and couldn't get out of the car for the swarm.

I positively swoon for the place though...maybe I'll pop up again this year.

We've never suffered from the midges

Probably because we're that high up. The little buggers can't negotiate past my body hair or flab!

I'm not sure I'd have to check it out but I don't think he finished and has gone back home and is working locally- his youngest lad is planning on going to uni or might even be there now
