If the board keeps allowing players to have clauses in there contracts for anything under 1 million we're never going to survive as a club whenever we unearth and half decent player there just going to be snatched of us and we're back to square one we need to be making good money for our best players so we can build for the future. The Don is clueless, he's got to go.
Would you rather not have the players sign then? Without VaZ Ta last season we would have been relegated. He came for peanuts and we made £500000 on him. Davies isn't worth what we are getting for him. He has scored in 5 games this season and he wanted away. He has been dreadful since he scored at Birmingham.
Things won't change until Barnsley fans stop believing selling your top scorer for 300k in January is a good bit of business. 'We'll not miss Hammill*, Howard*, Bogdanovich*, Drinkwater*, Butterfield*, Vaz Te*, Davies* - they were never any good. Lazy.' *delete as appropriate
It doesn't help though when the fans reckon our top scorer who's goals have secured us 10 of our points this season isn't worth £300k
hypothetically it dunt help, but in reality it dunt make a blind bit of difference. we all could have stood outside the ground protesting davies was worth more but it wouldnt have forced bolton to pay more.
drinkwater was'nt even our player for starters his parent club sold him. so you got a player, vt, hammill, davies, that will only sign for you if they have a certain clause in their contract what do you say to them "go and sign for the opposition up the road" who will allow the clause. what do you do with a player thats out of contract in 5 months and can walk away on a free, do you cash in on him while you can and atleast get something for him or the player MAY think b0110x to this i'm not risking an injury 'cos i'm away in the summer
And consider that Davies, Vaz te and Butterfield have left the club for a combined level of around £1.8m. Travesty
Many ways of considering what a profit is. If the sale of assets leverages a decrease in turnover and those assets are replaced by less effective ones... That £1.8m needs to be realised and reinvested to stand still. Sadly, it goes to subsidise losses and we play ever decreasing circles.
Michael McIndoe Brian Howard Jason Shackell Adam Hammill Ricardo Vaz Te Jacob Butterfield Craig Davies How much worth of player do you think there is there at the time they were sold? It's only speculation, but if the widely reported figures are to be believed, we got a grand total of £4,350,000 for those seven players. Works out at £600,000 per player. In my opinion every one of them, bar probably McIndoe, were worth a lot more than that compared to similar transfers at the time.
