If we go will he tell us why he got rid of Neil Redfearn and spent the money on Mike Sheron? Unlikely.

I know, I know! It was because Neil Redfearn's career with Barnsley had reached it's natural conclusion. He had done everything he could for the club and needed a fresh challenge. He wanted to play another season in the premier league while he was still in his prime and £1 million was a very respectable offer for a 31 year old. Charlton were/are a good club and offered Neil a reasonable opportunity to make a bit of extra money after spending a good part of his career on a modest salary in the lower leagues. John Dennis had very little to do with it and most likely wished Neil the very best, being the gentleman that he is.

The money most likely paid for Bruce Dyer rather than Mike Sheron, who joined the Reds following the sale of Ashley Ward to Blackburn as we needed a new striker. It was John Hendrie's choice not John Dennis who merely backed his manager with the necessary funds and it was seen as a decent signing at the time.

Ashley Ward and Bruce Dyer both scored against Hudds when we thrashed them 7-1 and you obviously haven't read Redfearns book.

Does Dennis mention the sale of Redfearn in his book?

No, that reads Sheron signed after Ward. The Redfearn money would have been spent on Dyer and Hignett.

I read bits of Redfearn's book but selectively, how does he tell it? What I wrote is pretty much what came out of his mouth at the time of the transfer, supporters saw it a bit differently at the time and blamed Wilson.

"My position was straightforward enough. I had proved myself as a Premiership player and I wanted paying accordingly. It wasn't the first time I'd had a dispute over pay."

He talked about how he nearly left the club before because he felt he was being taken for granted financially - but at that time a deal got ironed out. He said he was on a lot less than other players on the books at that time and he asked for parity with the top earners. Danny agreed but he states the directors didn't want to so they sold him.

He didn't want to go to Charlton because he wanted to stay in the North, but the money was compelling. They gave him four times what he was on at us - but he insists that if the directors had given him parity with other people at the club he'd have stayed.

To suggest he didn't have years left in his is nonsense - he was in the Premier League two more years after he left us, and we missed him so much that following year.

Another **** nickel and dime decision by Barnsley F.C. - if you believe Neil Redfearn.

That's only Redfearns side of the story though.

Exactly, so let Dennis give us his side of the story. Who was the top earner at the club? Why did Redfearn go to Charlton?
