Cool band. Only just got into 'em mind, Fester gets played where I work all the time and it was driving me mad not knowing who it was.

The death knell for HMV for me came when they refused to match their own online prices in store, due to the online store being based in Jersey.

    Lunacy!

HMV has always been ***** and too expensive so good riddens to them. Any place that sells box sets for 100 quid that you can get delivered from Amazon for 30 quid shouldn't be in a business anyway.

No real surprise. It always felt like a shop that had lost it's way. Didn't know what it was selling really - music, DVDs, t-shirts, crap paperback books, posters, computer games and consoles, headphones, mp3 devices, **** knows what else. Wasn't particularly good at selling anything specifically and always outgunned by Internet sellers. Operating under difficult economic conditions. Bye bye HMV.

They were on about it on Breakfast on Radio 5.

Apparently a few years back, a consultant went to see the then Managing Director/Chairman and told him of the 3 dangers to the High Street store, and HMV in particular.

    They were:

    Internet Trading (Amazon etc)
    Downloads
    Supermarket sales.

Apparently the MD said he'd never heard such rubbish!

I could try to get you the Felt record Paul, that's Terry Miles' band who played keys on my stuff. Doing a new record with him soon when I have the money!

HMV vouchers not valid by the way.

Ah, he joined them when they became Denim didn't he, although I don't think he played on the fantastic Back in Denim album. I have all the Felt reissue CDs apart from that one. Some of Lawrence's stuff can be quite difficult/expensive to get hold of.

I was once looking at CD's in HMV, couple of years ago. One CD in particular was an old Sum 41 album, over 10 years old, they wanted £12 for it. I ended up getting it with a Hives and a Chili Peppers album from that's entertainment 3 for a fiver.

I was a lot more upset when Casa Disco and EGS Records closed their doors. Even if those in EGS were some of the most miserable people I've ever had to deal with in my life, it was still better than going to HMV.

He was in Felt too! At least on some stuff. Then Denim, then Go-Kart Mozart. Not seen Lawrence for years, bad drug problem.

I'm normally with you Redstar, but even we can't pin this one on that odious (unt. All sorts of factors at play, mentioned elsewhere, but HMV themselves are majorly culpable, not reacting to market trends/forces as they should have done.

Gonna miss thought my DVD from Asda for £9 is only £16 in HMV. Too much in store choice prob increased prices.

20 quid blu rays, 40 quid console games, 10 quid albums. love the shop in town but i hardly buy from there, massively inflated prices.
