A bit worse than "eek" ... that comment alone says to me Stones won't be a Barnsley player come 1st Feb, and most likely we'll failto get his true worth.
To be fair, he does also say we won't be forced into a deal. But I reckon £2m with a loan back, and he's gone. Unless there's a huge sell-on clause, we'll live to regret that.
The way I read that statement is that BFC will not be forced into a lower-priced deal as we get towards the end of the January Transfer Window, so any potential buyers, don't think you'll benefit from a cut-down price by delaying. There is absoluteley zero need to panic sell, so for a change, we can sit on this assett and get best use from John Stones until some point where a club hits the valuation fee (which I think will be £2.5 - 3.0 M). It really does not matter one bit if it is this season or next.......we can just keep extending his contract, thus maximising the sale.
TomFun................my pint pot is not half full or half empty on this one............it's a full pint !!!! Confident here that BFC will run this through to a succesful conclusion (please don't bookmark this thread and allow it to come back and haunt me).
They'll (interested parties) wait until the last minute and offer us a fee that is lower than his true value, by some degree, and we'll take it. History tells me this.
but we have Stones till the end of next season well thats what I was toldon here when I asked how long his present contract was.If this is so then we are firmly in the driving seat on this one, or should be.
Butterfied wanted to extend his contract when Keith Hill first arrived. The Don told him they weren't interested at that point, and would speak again nearer January. He then had 4 months of quality performances and the club tried in vain (as bigger clubs were now circling) to then extend it. Then came the injury. Then he left, for double the length of contract that BFC offered, way more money, to a Premier League club. But some people suggest he's failed already, or that he was too big for his boots, etc etc. Loyalty. It really does work both ways.
I'm waiting to see what comes of Butterfield, is he just about match fit now? At the time I said he could be a risk signing not knowing if he would be the same player after his injury. I also thought he would be streets ahead of Howson, Snodgrass but now l don't think he will be. Interesting 12 months for him.
Yeah that comment is really worrying and makes it sound like we WANT teams to bid for him. Don should have said "we have had no bids for John and we don't encourage them either. He recently signed a long term contract with us and we have no intention to sell him as an integral part of our team".
He is streets ahead of the Norwich midfield/Bolton midfield. In terms of ability etc. But he's not been allowed a run of games by two over-cautious managers to get the match fitness that comes with said run of games. Obviously, I've seen a fair bit of him. And he's still the same player. If you're interested, go on Bolton player, watch the last 12 minutes of the Leeds away game on NYD. Looked the best player on the field, and as good as he was when here. Holloway has always wanted him, and I think Palace is a good move for him to get some games/fitness in a promotion chasing team and see where it goes from there. Definitely agree though, interesting 12 months ahead for him.

Come on YT, streets ahead of snodgrass? Is he ****. I am a fan of butterfields ability but that is extreme bias. Snodgrass has proved himself a very capable PL performer.
