He seems to be doing the business as an impact sub

Indeed. Maybe more than 10 minutes would be nice to see but if it 'aint broke don't fix it. Letting him get thrown around for 90 mins might not be the best next step.

I think he might be suggesting there is more than just a physical growing up taking place.

    he is 19 years old.

I bow to the managers superior coaching knowledge to some extent.I do have to ask a question. How old were players like.Pelé, Eusebio,Best(George), Maradonna,Ronaldo (Brazil & Portugal),Beckham... need I go on.All of those played in club or international or both in their teens. So when do we take the risk... We have Stones,Digby,Rose,RNL and maybe more gems in our academy, could we have a world class player or more in that list.

To be fair there were very few gonna wrestle and bully maradonna, even at 15 year old.

George Best had problems and even left Man U early on, Messi was being pumped full of growth hormones. Michael Owen had filled out substantially by 18, but did get knocked about and did play too much football too young which is why he'd gone off by 25 and was so injury prone. Hansen said, if you are good enough - you're old enough. Doesn't mention Owen had no more than 5 good seasons at the top level.

Point is, every player develops at a different rate, a good coach will know how to bring them through at the pace they are ready.

Don't jest, 2 more goals and there will be half a dozen clubs sniffing round him. You can't breathe nowadays without some bugger putting a bid in! :D

Ha! We'll be fine, for now. He's got a lot of development to go through. Needs to bulk up, but great to see him netting. Bodes well..

Don't really understand this line from Flicker. What difference does it make whether he starts or comes off the bench - if defenders want to give him a hard time they will do regardless.

But I would stick with the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' argument overall because he seems to be able to find space amongst tiring defenders.

Get to someone early and you can bully them out of the game. I think Flicker is saying he's better coming off the bench at the moment rather than being subbed after a hour, when defences are tiring and maybe concentration levels have dropped. Which is right in a way when you consider the nature of his recent goals. Whereas a young defender like Stones has benefitted from starting games and the short break he was given seemed to have worked for him too.

Once the experience is stacking up, I'm sure a start won't be far off for young Danny.

you comparing rose with the likes of pele and maradonna? have a word with yourself. flicker is bang on the money, rose isn't ready for 90 mins of championship rough and tumble. every club has a shackel (except us), who' d be after bullying him.

Anyone remember another local lad & skinny runt of a player playing for us at the age of 17 in the 80's? We sold him to the Fowls for £250k and amazingly he beefed up and looked the perfect striker only a few weeks later? Don't know how Wednesday did this so quickly with him (And it wasn't the beer & fags in the early years that gave him his physique) but he certainly went onto be excellent striker, played for England and if not for injuries could have been one of the best!

Arise the future England striker ..... Sir Danny Rose?

I remember another young striker from NZ quite a bit later who everyone called bambi on ice,

Didn't go on to be as good as the one posted above but certainly had a decent career.

    Wish we had kept him

    I remember David Hirst

But he was never a skinny, runt of a lad. As proof, here's a team photo of him prior to joining Wednesday. He's as big as the likes of Rodger Wylde & Paul Futcher and neither of them could be classed as skinny runts.
