Just drove from my girlfriends house in Leeds.

M1 south from Leeds to Barnsley pretty clear, very little traffic too until you get to where the M62 joins.

M1 north, seems to be very slow moving from Woolley services to Wakefield, but no more so than any other morning.

M621 coming out of Leeds was pretty treacherous, however id expect it to be much clearer on the way in as their was thick rush hour traffic.

M62 is apparently gridlocked in both directions between jnct 24 and about 29 I think it said on the radio. Stories of people doing 2 miles in an hour and a half.

Barnsley town centre, surprisingly less traffic than usual going into town from the motorway and along westway.

Main roads all look pretty clear.

Bus services still running in Wakefield and Leeds although there's talk of stopping them soon, sorry I don't know how the busses are running in Barnsley but i'd assume something similar.

All flights from Doncaster and Leeds Bradford airport suspended.

Bus routes cleared here but they can't be arsed to grit the short road to school so yet again it is closed.

It's one road 200 yards long but no, they go down the road before on their gritting route. More education days lost and parents having to work at home or time off

They grit the main roads but don't give a **** if you can get to the main roads. Some of the side roads in Barnsley are really bad, and even some of the busier side roads like Stocks Lane and Agnes Road have just been left untouched.

I understand can't grit every single road but should do the ones to help kids get to school

Agree completely. All these schools closing as ridiculous. Imagine if the private sector gave in as easily. I've had an engineer arrive at a council this morning over 100 miles away only to have to turn around because the council team who were supposed to be working with him (who live locally) couldn't make it in to work. Any excuse.

There must be a money saving element in the reasoning somewhere I would guess.

Unfortunately.... 'we reap what we sew' Private sector OK but we are talking about the welfare and safety of children combined with the fact we live in one of the most litigous societies in the world. Blame the 'sue' culture and successive governments who have brought out excessive H&S legislation which impacts on schools as much as businesses but you cant blame heads for being excessively cautious
